Background: Strawberry (Fragaria × annanasa Duch.) is an important economic fruit worldwide, whose growth and development are often hindered by water deficiency. 5-Aminolevulinic acid (ALA), a natural plant growth regulator, has been suggested to mitigate the osmotic damages by promoting root water absorption, osmotic adjustment, photosynthetic capacity, and antioxidant improvement.

Evolution of interspecific interactions underlying the nonlinear relationship between active biomass and pollutant degradation capacity in bioelectrochemical systems.

Water Res

December 2024

Zhejiang Key Laboratory of Clean Energy Conversion and Utilization, Science and Education Integration College of Energy and Carbon Neutralization, Zhejiang University of Technology, Hangzhou 310014, China. Electronic address:

This study proposes a switching operating mode that alternates between microbial fuel cell (MFC) and microbial electrolysis cell (MEC) to restore the biofilm activity and organic pollutant degradation capacity in bioelectrochemical systems (BESs) during prolonged operation. After the model switching, the toluene degradation kinetics in BESs equipped with graphite sheet (GS) and polyaniline@carbon nanotubes (PANI@CNTs) bioanodes were elevated by 2.10 and 3.

Pharmacological reduction of lipid hydroperoxides as a potential modulator of sarcopenia.

January 2025

Aging and Metabolism Research Program, Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Oklahoma City, OK, USA.

We previously reported that elevated expression of phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase 4, an enzyme that regulates membrane lipid hydroperoxides, can mitigate sarcopenia in mice. However, it is still unknown whether a pharmacological intervention designed to modulate lipid hydroperoxides might be an effective strategy to reduce sarcopenia in aged mice. Here we asked whether a newly developed compound, CMD-35647 (CMD), can reduce muscle atrophy induced by sciatic nerve transection.

Bone marrow edema (BME), a notable manifestation during the progression of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH), exhibits significant associations with femoral head collapse, pain, and prognosis, howeverits' pathogenesis remains underexplored. In this study, specimens from patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA) were analyzed. The results revealed significantly higher Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores and CT low-density area ratio in the BME group compared to the control group.
