Objective: To clarify variations in the relationship between high-frequency activities (HFAs) and low-frequency bands from the tonic to the clonic phase in focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizures (FBTCS), using phase-amplitude coupling.
Methods: This retrospective study enrolled six patients with drug-resistant focal epilepsy who underwent intracranial electrode placement at Osaka University Hospital (July 2018-July 2019). We recorded 11 FBTCS. The synchronization index (SI) and receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) analysis were used to analyze the coupling between HFA amplitude (80-250 Hz) and lower frequencies phase.
Results: In the tonic phase, the θ (4-8 Hz)-HFA coupling peaked, and the HFA power occurred at baseline (0 μV) of θ oscillations. In contrast, in the clonic phase, the δ (2-4 Hz)-HFA coupling peaked, and the HFA power occurred at the trough of δ oscillations. ROC analysis indicated that the δ-HFA SI discriminated well the clonic from the tonic phase.
Conclusions: The main low-frequency band modulating the HFA shifted from the θ band in the tonic phase to the δ band in the clonic phase.
Significance: Neurophysiological key frequency bands were implied to be the θ band and δ band in tonic and clonic seizures, respectively, which improves our understanding of FBTCS.

This report describes the development of recurrent cutaneous microthrombosis in a patient with the superposition of Factor V Leiden heterozygosity on a noncriteria IgM antibody to phosphatidylserine/prothrombin complex. The patient was treated with prednisone, apixaban, and rituximab and was stable off of prednisone at her last outpatient visit 22 months after the initial event. This report illustrates the challenges of dealing with multifactor thrombophilia especially when one of those factors is a noncriteria antiphospholipid antibody and reaffirms the value of testing for noncriteria antibodies when clinical findings suggest the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies but the criteria antibodies are negative.

Base editing is preferable for bacterial gene inactivation without generating double strand breaks, requiring homology recombination or highly efficient DNA delivery capability. However, the potential of base editing is limited by the adjoined dependence on the editing window and protospacer adjacent motif (PAM). Herein, we report an unconstrained base editing system to enable the inactivation of any genes of interest (GOIs) in bacteria.

Antiferromagnetic materials have several unique properties, such as a vanishingly small net magnetization, which generates weak dipolar fields and makes them robust against perturbation from external magnetic fields and rapid magnetization dynamics, as dictated by the geometric mean of their exchange and anisotropy energies. However, experimental and theoretical techniques to detect and manipulate the antiferromagnetic order in a fully electrical manner must be developed to enable advanced spintronic devices with antiferromagnets as their active spin-dependent elements. Among the various antiferromagnetic materials, conducting antiferromagnets offer high electrical and thermal conductivities and strong electron-spin-phonon interactions.

Based on the latent structure model and association rule analysis, the regularity of prescription for hyperlipidemia comorbid with hypertension was explored, and traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) pattern type was speculated to provide a reference for clinical pattern differentiation and treatment, and guideline establishment. The literature on the treatment of hyperlipidemia comorbid with hypertension by TCM was systematically searched on CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, and SinoMed academic platforms. The relevant information was extracted and a database was established using Microsoft Excel 2019.

Background: Cortical high-frequency activation immediately before death has been reported, raising questions about an enhanced conscious state at this critical time. Here, we analyzed an electroencephalogram (EEG) from a comatose patient during the dying process with a standard bedside monitor and spectral parameterization techniques.
Methods: We report neurophysiologic features of a dying patient without major cortical injury.
