A novel chiral stationary phase (CSP) of Zr-based metal-organic framework, l-Cys-PCN-224, was prepared by one-pot method and applied for the enantioseparation by capillary electrochromatography. The CSP was characterized by X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectra, nitrogen adsorption/desorption, circular dichroism spectrum, zeta-potential, and so on. The results revealed that the CSP had good crystallinity, high specific surface area (2580 m /g), and good thermal stability. Meanwhile, the cross-section of l-Cys-PCN-224-bonded open-tubular (OT) column was observed by a scanning electron microscope, which proved the successful bonding of l-Cys-PCN-224 particles to the inner wall. Relative standard deviations of the column efficiencies were 3.87%-9.14%, and not obviously changed after 200 runs, which indicated that l-Cys-PCN-224-bonded OT column had the better stability and reproducibility. Excellent chiral separation performance was verified with nine kinds of natural amino acids including acidic, neutral, and basic as the analytes. All amino acids studied achieved good separation with the resolution of 1.38-13.9 and selector factor of 1.11-3.71. These results demonstrated that the CSP had an excellent potential in the chiral separation field.

Circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy has emerged as a potent tool for probing chiral small-molecule ligand exchange on natively achiral quantum dots (QDs). In this study, we report a novel approach to identifying QD-biomolecule interactions by inducing chirality in CdS QDs using thermoresponsive elastin-like polypeptides (ELPs) engineered with C-terminal cysteine residues. Our method is based on a versatile two-step ligand exchange process starting from monodisperse oleate-capped QDs in nonpolar media and proceeding through an easily accessed achiral glycine-capped QD intermediate.

A novel and new type of tetracycline with a different mechanism of action was necessary, due to the drug resistance of existing tetracyclines. This study outlines the synthesis and antibacterial evaluation of anhydro-tetracycline derivatives, which are unconventional tetracyclines with unique mechanisms of action. These derivatives include C4-NH, C4-OH, and C9-substituted variations, and our synthetic approach focuses on semi-synthesis using natural tetracyclines as the starting precursors.

Compared with chiral β-amino phosphorus compounds, which can be easily derived from natural optically pure α-amino acids, obtaining chiral β-amino phosphorus derivatives remains a challenge. These derivatives, which cannot be derived from chiral natural amino acids, possess unique biological activities or potential catalytic activities. Herein, highly enantioselective hydrogenation for the preparation of chiral β-amino phosphorus derivatives from -β-enamido phosphorus compounds is reported by using a green and low-cost earth-abundant metal nickel catalyst (13 examples of 99% ee).

Novel tetrahydroisoquinoline and piperidine derivatives were selectively synthesized from substituted indenes or cyclopentenes. The process starts with an oxidative cleavage of the ring olefin bond, which gives reactive diformyl intermediates. By a ring-closing step using chiral (R) or (S) α-methylbenzylamine under a reductive amination protocol facilitated ring formation with ring expansion of the corresponding nitrogen-containing heterocycles.
