In intramolecular [2+2] photocycloaddition reactions, the two tethered olefins can approach each other in a straight or in a crossed fashion. Despite the fact that the latter reaction mode leads to intriguing, otherwise inaccessible bridged skeletons, there has so far not been any enantioselective variants thereof. This study concerned the crossed [2+2]-photocycloaddition of 2-(alkenyloxy)cyclohex-2-enones to bridged cyclobutanes. It was found that the reaction could be performed with high enantioselectivity (80-94% ee) under visible light conditions when employing a chiral rhodium Lewis acid as a catalyst (2 mol%).

The asymmetric total synthesis of isolinearol, a -dolastane-type diterpenoid that inhibits byssal thread formation by mussels, has been achieved. In the synthesis, the key features include an intramolecular reductive nucleophilic addition using a low-valence titanium species and the direct installation of a ketone side chain. We evaluated their biological activities using the synthetic samples and found the novel inhibitory molecules with a simplified structure exhibit high inhibitory activities against byssus formation and low toxicities.

Lymphoma is a malignant cancer characterized by a rapidly increasing incidence, complex etiology, and lack of obvious early symptoms. Efficient theranostics of lymphoma is of great significance in improving patient outcomes, empowering informed decision-making, and driving medical innovation. Herein, we developed a multifunctional nanoplatform for precise optical imaging and therapy of lymphoma based on a new photosensitizer (1-oxo-1-benzoo[de]anthracene-2,3-dicarbonitrile-triphenylamine (OBADC-TPA)).

A Systematic Study of the Structural Properties of Technical Lignins.

Polymers (Basel)

January 2025

Postgraduate Program in Engineering of Processes and Technologies (PGEPROTEC), University of Caxias do Sul (UCS), Caxias do Sul 95070-560, Brazil.

Technical lignins are globally available and a sustainable feedstock. The unique properties of technical lignins suggest that these materials should have several industrial applications. The main proposal of this study is to evaluate the relationship between the structure and properties of two technical lignins.

Transparent X-ray shielding polymer films were developed by bulk photo copolymerization of in situ prepared bismuth carboxylate prepolymers with polymerizable exomethylene moieties and ,-dimethylacrylamide (DMAA). The bismuth-containing prepolymers were prepared via the polycondensation of BiPh, 2-octenylsuccinic acid (OSA), and itaconic acid (IA) bearing an exomethylene group for polymerization. OSA was a chain extender by intermolecular condensation and a stopper by intramolecular cyclization to inhibit cross-linkage.

Benzo[1,2-b:6,5-b']dithiophene-4,5-diamine: A New Fluorescent Probe for the High-Sensitivity and Real-Time Visual Monitoring of Phosgene.

Sensors (Basel)

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Marine Resource Utilization in South China Sea, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Hainan University, Haikou 570228, China.

The detection of highly toxic chemicals such as phosgene is crucial for addressing the severe threats to human health and public safety posed by terrorist attacks and industrial mishaps. However, timely and precise monitoring of phosgene at a low cost remains a significant challenge. This work is the first to report a novel fluorescent system based on the Intramolecular Charge Transfer (ICT) effect, which can rapidly detect phosgene in both solution and gas phases with high sensitivity by integrating a benzo[1,2-b:6,5-b']dithiophene-4,5-diamine (BDTA) probe.
