Subjective cognitive decline (SCD), a self-reported worsening in cognition concurrent with normal performance on standardized neuropsychological tests, has gained much attention due to its high risks in the development of mild cognitive impairments or Alzheimer's disease. The existing cross-sectional diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) studies in SCD have shown extremely controversial findings. Furthermore, all of these studies investigated diffusion properties within the voxel, such as fractional anisotropy, mean diffusivity, or axial diffusivity (DA). However, it remains unclear whether individuals with SCD demonstrate alterations of diffusion profile between voxels and their neighbors, as indexed by local diffusion homogeneity (LDH). We selected 30 healthy controls (HCs) and 23 SCD subjects to acquire their whole-brain DTI. Diffusion images were compared using the tract-based spatial statistics method. Diffusion indices with significant between-group tract clusters were extracted from each individual for further region-of-interest (ROI)-based comparisons. Our results showed that subjects with SCD demonstrated reduced LDH in the left superior frontal gyrus (SFG) and DA in the right anterior cingulate cortex compared with the HC group. In contrast, the SCD group showed higher LDH values in the left lingual gyrus (LG) compared with the HC group. Notably, LDH in the left SFG was significantly and negatively correlated with LDH in the left LG. In conclusion, white matter (WM) integrity in the left SFG, right ACC, and left LG is altered in SCD, suggesting that individuals with SCD exhibit detectable changes in WM tracts before they demonstrate objective cognitive deficits.

Objective: To explore feasibility, clinical and imaging outcomes of percutaneous endoscopic interlaminar discectomy (PEID) for single level large lumbar disc herniation(LDH).

Methods: From October 2018 to March 2023, 31 patients with single level LDH treated with PEID were retrospectively analyzed. Among patients, including 18 males and 13 females, aged from 15 to 40 years old with an average of (28.

Background: The incidence of HF following ACS remains unacceptably high at discharge and several identified risk factors contribute to the development of HF in this context.

Objective: This study investigated the prevalence and clinical significance of HF in patients admitted to the Clinic for Heart, Blood Vessels, and Rheumatic Diseases at the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo following ACS.

Methods: This retrospective observational study was conducted at the Clinic for Heart, Blood Vessels, and Rheumatic Diseases of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo between February 1 and April 1, 2023, involving patients who were admitted because of ACS.

To explore the regulation of vasodilatory function in rats with post-infarction heart failure by salvianolic acid B(Sal-B) based on the mechanosensitive ion channel, namely Piezo1. A post-infarction heart failure model of rats was prepared by ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery. After successful modeling, the rats were randomly divided into the model group, Sal-B group(0.

Background: Cardiovascular and renal complications of type 2 diabetes are the main causes of death in diabetic patients. Clinical studies have found that polyethylene glycol loxenatide (PEG-Loxe), a GLP-1 analog widely used to treat type 2 diabetes, boosts renal and cardiac functions in diabetic patients. However, its mechanism of action remains to be elucidated.

Article Synopsis
  • Discogenic low back pain (DLBP) is challenging to diagnose, but full endoscopic spinal surgery with thermal annuloplasty has shown good results in treating refractory cases, as demonstrated in a report of a 22-year-old female patient.
  • After a series of treatments, including discectomy and injections, it was found that a residual high-intensity zone (HIZ) was contributing to her persistent pain.
  • The application of thermal annuloplasty effectively alleviated her low back pain by targeting inflammation associated with the HIZ, marking a potentially innovative approach for managing postoperative DLBP.
