Sera from 1258 individuals have been tested by four laboratories for rubella antibody by both the haemagglutination-inhibition and single radial haemolysis techniques. There was good agreement between the results obtained by the two methods. Although sheep red blood cells were used in the single radial haemolysis plates, no problems were encountered with sera from patients with infectious mononucleosis. The single haemolysis technique was found to be simple, convenient, and reliable, and suited to the rapid screening of large numbers of sera to assess susceptibility to rubella in the context of a vaccination campaign. However, since the technique does not detect anti-rubella IgM, it should not be used as the only test to investigate suspected recent infection.

Formation and crystalline structure of spherulites from pea and high amylose maize starches.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

Department of Grain Science and Industry, Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS 66506, USA. Electronic address:

Starch spherulite is a unique form of resistant starch characterized by a spherical structure with crystalline lamellae that are radially oriented and may find applications in delivery of nutrients and bioactives to the lower gastrointestinal tract. Formation of starch spherulites generally requires heating to a high temperature followed by quenching and long crystallization time. The objectives of this study were to gain a deeper understanding of the factors influencing spherulite formation from pea starch (PS) and high-amylose maize starch (HAMS) and investigate if spherulites could be formed by a slow cooling rate and determine the crystalline structure and morphology of the spherulites formed.

Background: There is compelling evidence of an inverse association between potassium intake and blood pressure (BP). A potential mechanism for this effect may be dietary potassium-mediated augmentation of endothelium-dependent relaxation. To date, studies have investigated potassium intake supplementation over several weeks in healthy volunteers with variable results on vascular function.

Through the ferrite single-phase parameters of M50 bearing steel obtained based on nanoindentation experiments and the representative volume element (RVE) model established based on the real microstructure of M50, this paper established a multiscale finite element model for the cold ring rolling of M50 and verified its accuracy. The macroscale and mesoscale flow behaviors of the ring during the cold rolling deformation process were examined and explained. The macroscopic flow behavior demonstrated that the stress distribution was uniform following rolling.

Application of bioinformatic tools in cell type classification for single-cell RNA-seq data.

Comput Biol Chem

January 2025

Bioinformatics Lab, Department of Statistics, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur 5404, Bangladesh. Electronic address:

The advancements in single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNAseq) technology have significantly transformed genomics research, enabling the handling of thousands of cells in each experiment. As of now, 32,068 research studies have been cataloged in the Pubmed database. The primary aim of scRNAseq investigations is to identify cell types, understand the antitumor immune response, and identify new and uncommon cell types.

Hereditary multiple exostoses is an autosomal dominant genetic condition primarily affecting long bones. Forearm deformities, including wrist ulnar deviation, ulnar shortening, radial or ulnar bowing, and radial head dislocation, are common manifestations. Gradual ulnar lengthening is suggested as a viable treatment option for managing these deformities.
