Optical autocorrelators are typically employed to retrieve the temporal information of bound-state lasers; however, they suffer from limitations when multiple sub-pulses coexist with varying intensities and pulse widths. To this end, this study investigates the impact of differences in pulse temporal intensity and width between two unequal pulses in a bound-state laser on the corresponding autocorrelation trace. Maps of autocorrelation trace in terms of the temporal profile of unequal pulse bound state are created to evaluate their internal relationship.

Tumour hypoxia in driving genomic instability and tumour evolution.

Nat Rev Cancer

January 2025

Translational Oncogenomics Laboratory, Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute, University of Manchester, Manchester, UK.

Intratumour hypoxia is a feature of all heterogenous solid tumours. Increased levels or subregions of tumour hypoxia are associated with an adverse clinical prognosis, particularly when this co-occurs with genomic instability. Experimental evidence points to the acquisition of DNA and chromosomal alterations in proliferating hypoxic cells secondary to inhibition of DNA repair pathways such as homologous recombination, base excision repair and mismatch repair.

Entangled Illnesses: Embodied Experiences of Managing Multimorbidity.

Sociol Health Illn

February 2025

Tampere Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Tampere University, Tampere, Finland.

Multimorbidity, meaning multiple long-term conditions impacting a person's health, has become a rising societal and public health issue. The article contributes to the sociological study of chronic illness and multimorbidity by analysing how the blurriness of illnesses and entanglement of symptoms in multimorbidity is experienced and negotiated by people with coexisting chronic conditions. Drawing on qualitative interviews with people who live with endometriosis, fibromyalgia or hormonal migraine in Finland, we show how people with multiple chronic conditions distinguish between evolving symptoms based on past embodied experiences to make decisions about how to best manage their health.

Autoimmune diseases (AID) are defined by immune dysregulation characterized by specific humoral and/or cell mediated responses directed against the body's own tissues. Cytokines in particular play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of AID, with proinflammatory cytokines contributing to the initiation and propagation of autoimmune inflammation, whereas anti-inflammatory cytokines facilitate regression of inflammation and recovery from acute phases of the disease. Parallel work by our group evaluating a comprehensive set of pro- and anti-inflammatory serum cytokines in Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) as well as Alopecia areata (AA) uncovered a similar pattern of inheritance specific immune dysregulation in these two distinct autoimmune skin diseases.

Coexistence of Asymptomatic Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis and Active Pulmonary Tuberculosis: Case Report.

Infect Drug Resist

January 2025

Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, 610041, People's Republic of China.

We present a rare case of asymptomatic allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) concurrent with active pulmonary tuberculosis. Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis is an immunological pulmonary disorder characterized by hypersensitivity to Aspergillus fumigatus, while pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) is a complex infection caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). The association between pulmonary tuberculosis infections and Aspergillus infections remains a fascinating area of inquiry.
