In-silico prediction of aqueous solubility plays an important role during the drug discovery and development processes. For many years, the limited performance of in-silico solubility models has been attributed to the lack of high-quality solubility data for pharmaceutical molecules. However, some studies suggest that the poor accuracy of solubility prediction is not related to the quality of the experimental data and that more precise methodologies (algorithms and/or set of descriptors) are required for predicting aqueous solubility for pharmaceutical molecules. In this study a large and diverse database was generated with aqueous solubility values collected from two public sources; two new recursive machine-learning approaches were developed for data cleaning and variable selection, and a consensus model based on regression and classification algorithms was created. The modeling protocol, which includes the curation of chemical and experimental data, was implemented in KNIME, with the aim of obtaining an automated workflow for the prediction of new databases. Finally, we compared several methods or models available in the literature with our consensus model, showing results comparable or even outperforming previous published models.

Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) staining is widely used to stain osteoclasts in histological bone sections. The red dye formed by the conventional TRAP enzymatic reaction using naphthol AS-MX (or AS-BI) phosphate and fast red-violet (or garnet) chromogens is readily soluble in alcohol or xylene and requires air-drying prior to cover slipping or the use of an aqueous mounting medium. However, the use of an aqueous mounting medium makes it difficult to store stained specimens for a long time.

Although models have been proposed to explain the mechanisms of bioglass (BG) dissolution and subsequent calcium phosphate (CaP) mineralization, open questions remain. The processes in which phase transition occurs in aqueous solutions and their dynamics remain underexplored partly because traditional instruments/techniques do not allow for direct observations at the adequate time and length scales at which such phase transformations occur. For instance, given the crucial role of the silica gel in CaP formation during BG dissolution, uncertainty exists about how such a silica gel forms on the BG surface.

Flavonoids such as silibinin, hesperetin, and phloretin exhibit well-documented biological activities, including anti-inflammatory, cytoprotective, anticarcinogenic, and antioxidant effects. However, their clinical application remains limited due to challenges such as poor aqueous solubility, low bioavailability, and restricted intestinal absorption, which can significantly reduce their pharmacological efficacy. Objective: To investigate the association between preoperative aqueous humour (AqH) cytokines and mid-term endothelial cell density (ECD) following penetrating keratoplasty (PKP).
Methods: This study analysed a total of 87 eyes of which 54 underwent PKP and 33 eyes underwent cataract surgery. AqH samples were collected at the beginning of surgery.
