To explore the intergenerational cardiotoxicity of nanoplastics, maternal mice were exposed to 60 nm polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NP) during pregnancy and lactation. The results showed that PS-NP can enter the hearts of offspring and induce myocardial fiber arrangement disorder, acidophilic degeneration of cardiomyocytes, and elevated creatine kinase isoenzymes (CK-MB) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels after maternal exposure to PS-NP at 100 mg/kg during pregnancy and lactation. Mechanistically, KEGG analysis of RNA sequencing showed the participation of hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) and ferroptosis in PS-NP-induced cardiotoxicity.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the impact of coexisting metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) on in-hospital mortality and organ injury markers in patients with heat stroke (HS).

Approach: HS patients were retrospectively identified between July 1, 2022 and September 30, 2023 at West China Hospital, Sichuan University. Baseline characteristics, such as demographics, initial vital signs, and organ functional indicators were collected.

Background: Macro-creatine kinase (macro-CK) type 1, a macroenzyme composed of creatine kinase (CK) and immunoglobulin, is associated with hypothyroidism, tumour, autoimmune diseases, myositis, and cardiovascular diseases, and may even be found in the absence of associated pathology. However, its relationship with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infection remains unreported.

Case Summary: An 11-year-old male patient presented with recurrent myocardial enzyme abnormalities, mainly manifested as elevated activities of CK and CK isoenzyme [particularly CK-myocardial band (MB)] with activity inverse (CK-MB higher than CK).

Article Synopsis
  • * Conducted between April and December 2022, the research involved examining blood and lymph node smears to confirm theileriosis, along with electrocardiography and echocardiography evaluations.
  • * The results indicated a significant incidence rate of theileriosis and revealed various clinical signs and abnormal cardiac findings, highlighting the need for better diagnostics and treatment strategies in affected buffaloes.

Upstream and downstream pathways of diacylglycerol kinase : Novel phosphatidylinositol turnover-independent signal transduction pathways.

Diacylglycerol kinase (DGK) phosphorylates diacylglycerol (DG) to produce phosphatidic acid (PA). Mammalian DGK comprise ten isozymes (α-κ) that regulate a wide variety of physiological and pathological events. Recently, we revealed that DGK isozymes use saturated fatty acid (SFA)/monosaturated fatty acid (MUFA)-containing and docosahexaenoic acid (22:6)-containing DG species, but not phosphatidylinositol (PI) turnover-derived 18:0/20:4-DG.
