The new anionic nickelate complexes [(MeCN)Ni(CF)(CF)], [(MeCN)Ni(CF)(CF)], [(IMes)Ni(CF)(CF)], [(IMes)Ni(CF)] (IMes = 1,3-bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene), and [(F-NHC)Ni(R)] (F-NHC = 1,3-bis(2,4-FPh), 2,4,6-FPh- or 3,4,5-FPh)imidazol-2-ylidene; (R = CF or CF) were synthesized and structurally characterized. The electrochemical properties of all new compounds were revealed by cyclic voltammetry studies and compared to the known CF analogue [(MeCN)Ni(CF)]. The IMes-coordinated complexes exhibited initial oxidation events that were well-separated from a second oxidation process in the cyclic voltammograms. The complexes containing F-substituted NHC ligands [(F-NHC)Ni(CF)] are structurally quite similar to the IMes derivative and reveal also two separated oxidation waves in their cyclic voltammograms. The absolute potentials as well as the separation between the two waves vary with the substitution pattern, suggesting that the NHC ligand environment (NHC = -heterocyclic carbene) is an interesting platform for the development of new redox-triggered reactions that release trifluoromethyl and perfluoroalkyl radicals upon oxidation.

Organic compounds present promising options for sustainable zinc battery electrodes. Nevertheless, the electrochemical properties of current organic electrodes still lag behind those of their inorganic counterparts. In this study, nitro groups were incorporated into pyrene-4, 5, 9, 10-tetraone (PTO), resulting in an elevated discharge voltage due to their strong electron-withdrawing capabilities.

In the field of organic electronics and optics, there is rapidly growing interest in enhancing both charge transport and the ion transport properties of semiconductors, particularly in light of recent emerging technologies such as organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) and switchable organic nanoantennas. Herein, we propose a universal method for internalizing the ionic transport properties of conventional polymer semiconductors. The incorporation of a tetrafluorophenyl azide-based photochemical cross-linker with a tetraethylene glycol bridge into poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) significantly enhances the performance and operational stability of ion-gating devices.

Due to the high cost of the available Pt electrocatalysts, the large-scale water electrolysis production of hydrogen has been hindered. Hydrogen generation via electrochemical water splitting is a renewable energy essential to a sustainable society, creating a distinct material interface that shows Pt-like properties with long-term stability crucial to hydrogen evolution reactions (HERs). Here, we synthesized the guanine-assisted facile synthesis of 1 wt % Pt/MoC/C having a layered type morphology via solid state calcined process followed by chemical reduction.

Tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) is a compound known for its natural health benefits, but current detection methods for TMP are overly expensive and time-consuming. In this study, we developed functional materials with TMP molecular recognition properties using molecularly imprinted technology. As TMP does not produce electrochemical signals in the detection potential range, hexacyanoferrate was selected as a redox probe, combined with the highly conductive polymer PEDOT:PSS to enhance electrode conductivity.

Two-dimensional (2D) materials are highly valued for their unique properties and potential applications, as they can display exotic behaviors differing from those of their bulk forms. Research on elementary and binary solids has been making great progress recently, while synthesizing multi-component 2D materials experimentally remains a challenge, despite the possibility of greatly extending the number of members of the 2D realm. In this study, we synthesized ternary BiTeX (X = Cl, Br, I) nanosheets with high crystallinity through an electrochemical exfoliation method.
