Right atrial aneurysm (RAA) is a rare congenital anomaly with a diverse clinical spectrum. We present a case of antenatal detection of a giant RAA. The infant had 3 episodes of staring spells presumed to be thrombo-embolic phenomena originating from the RAA. The infant underwent successful RAA resection with preservation of the right coronary artery that was displaced from its usual position due to invagination of the RAA in the subepicardial space of the right atrio-ventricular groove.

We present a case of a 52-year-old female patient who developed cerebral infarction caused by an atrial myxoma. The patient underwent successful surgical resection of the tumor, and the infarction was managed accordingly.

Unraveling the causal impact of smoking and its DNA methylation signatures on cardiovascular disease: Mendelian randomization and colocalization analysis.

Clin Epigenetics

January 2025

Department of Neurology, Third Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, 138 Tongzipo Road, Yuelu District, Changsha, 410013, Hunan, China.

Background: To explore the mechanisms linking smoking to cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) from an epigenetic perspective.

Methods: Mendelian Randomization (MR) analysis was performed to assess the causal effects of smoking behavior and DNA methylation levels at smoking-related CpG sites on nine CVDs, including aortic aneurysm, atrial fibrillation, coronary atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, heart failure, intracerebral hemorrhage, ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, subarachnoid hemorrhage. Colocalization analysis was used to further identify key smoking-related CpG sites from the MR causal estimates.

The Lim Kinase (LIMK) family of serine/threonine kinases is comprised of LIMK1 and LIMK2, which are central regulators of cytoskeletal dynamics via their well-characterized roles in promoting actin polymerization and destabilizing the cellular microtubular network. The LIMKs have been demonstrated to modulate several fundamental physiological processes, including cell cycle progression, cell motility and migration, and cell differentiation. These processes play important roles in maintaining cardiovascular health.

A 58-year-old hypertensive man was admitted with severe central chest pain and palpitation. His electrocardiogram (ECG) showed fast atrial fibrillation with features suggestive of left main coronary artery occlusion. He was taken to the Cath-lab but surprisingly, coronary angiogram (CAG) showed no stenosis.

Introduction: The adverse health effects of sugar-sweetened beverage intake are well-established, but the implications of overall added sugar intake remain unclear. We investigated the associations between intake of added sugar and various sugar-sweetened foods and beverages and risk of 7 cardiovascular diseases in 69,705 participants aged 45-83 years (47.2% female) from the Swedish Mammography cohort and Cohort of Swedish men.
