Exosomes have recently been considered ideal biotherapeutic nanocarriers that broaden the frontiers of current drug delivery systems to overcome the shortcomings associated with cytokine-based immunotherapy. Using this approach, the current study aimed to assess anti-proliferative activity of purified IL-29 and exosomes encapsulated IL-29. The IL-29+pET-28a construct was transformed into Rosetta 2(DE3) cells which was used for the large-scale production of IL-29.

Lipedema is an adipose tissue disorder characterized by the disproportionate increase of subcutaneous fat tissue in the lower and/or upper extremities. The underlying pathomechanism remains unclear and no molecular biomarkers to distinguish the disease exist, leading to a large number of undiagnosed and misdiagnosed patients. To unravel the distinct molecular characteristic of lipedema we performed lipidomic analysis of the adipose tissue and serum of lipedema versus anatomically- and body mass index (BMI)-matched control patients.

Screening for Multiple Autoantibodies in Plasma of Patients with Breast Cancer.

Cancer Genomics Proteomics

July 2018

Functional Genomics & Proteomics Unit, ITSI-Biosciences, Johnstown, PA, U.S.A.

Background/aim: Autoantibodies have potential as circulating biomarkers for early cancer detection. This study aimed to screen for known autoantibodies in human plasma using an Autoantibody Profiling System (APS) and quantify the levels in plasma of donors with/without breast cancer.

Materials And Methods: Plasma from nine female donors diagnosed with breast cancer (test group) and nine matched donors with no personal history of cancer (reference group) were screened with an APS containing probes for 30 autoantibodies.

Objective: Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU), the major complication associated with diabetes mellitus, has been shown to precede amputation in up to 90% of cases. Recent data reveal that procalcitonin (PCT) is a valid marker for the diagnosis of bacterial infections compared with traditional markers like white blood cell count, C-reactive protein levels, and erythrocyte sedimentation rate in DFU patients. Furthermore, cytokines are proposed to act as modulators and mediators for the expression and release of PCT into the circulation.
