The present study aimed to evaluate the toxicity and biochemical changes of 3 instar larvae affected by neemazal T/S, clove oil and ginger oil. These compounds were evaluated compared to the recommended pesticide, Coragen 20% SC. by means of sublethal concentrations, LC and LC under constant laboratory conditions. Results showed that neemazal T/S is more toxic than detected oils compared with higher toxicity of coragen with LC values of 57.52, 159.94, 633.38 and 930.71 μg mL for coragen, neemazal, ginger oil and clove oil, respectively. There were highly significant differences between all treatments and untreated larvae. Neemazal possessed the greatest effect on activity level of most physiological parameters than selected oils. Larval content of digestive enzymes was decreased significantly 48 h after all treatments except for lipase, α-esterase and β-esterase (in case of coragen and clove oil). Also, total proteins, total carbohydrates, total lipids and total free amino acids take the same trend. Based on this study, these sublethal doses caused a significantly dose-dependent perturbation in determined components.

This study compared the antimicrobial activity of several essential oils (EOs) vapor against food spoilage microbiota and further investigated the potential of EO vapor in extending the shelf life of leafy green vegetables. Oregano EO vapor showed stronger antimicrobial activities than basil and clove EO vapors against common spoilage-causing microorganisms in fresh produce, including Pantoea agglomerans, Pseudomonas cichorii, Pectobacterium carotovorum, Pantoea ananatis, Pseudomonas marginalis, Alterneria bassicicola, and Botrytis cinerea. When oregano EO vapor was applied to leafy greens, phytotoxic effects were observed on butter lettuce and iceberg lettuce but not on kai lan and kale.

Eugenol has pharmacological properties, but its impact on renal function is limitedly studied. Thus, this study evaluated the effects of eugenol at 10, 20, and 40 mg kg, administered via gavage for 60 days, on histological, biochemical, oxidative, and proteomic parameters in rat kidneys. Adult Wistar rats treated with 10 mg kg of eugenol had kidneys with low total antioxidant capacity, high nitric oxide content, and high percentual of blood vessels, with no damage to renal function or morphology.
