Background And Aims: The role of diet in blood lipids is scarcely investigated in adults at risk of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and even less studied regarding their socioeconomic status (SES). This study aimed to investigate the associations of diet quality with blood lipids in adults from families at high-risk for developing T2DM from six European countries, considering their SES.
Methods And Results: In total 2049 adults (67% women) from relatively low-SES regions and high T2DM risk families were enrolled. Dietary habits, sedentary behaviour and sociodemographic characteristics were assessed using standardised questionnaires. The associations of tertiles of healthy diet score (HDS) with blood lipids were tested by univariate analysis of variance (UNIANOVA). HDL-Cholesterol (HDL-C) was positively (B 1.54 95%CI 0.08 to 2.99) and LDL-Cholesterol (LDL-C) (B -4.15 95%CI -7.82 to -0.48), ratio of total cholesterol to HDL-C (B -0.24 95%CI -0.37 to -0.10), ratio of LDL-C to HDL-C (B -0.18 95%CI -0.28 to -0.08) and Atherogenic Index of Plasma (B -0.03 95%CI -0.06 to 0.00) inversely associated with the highest tertile of diet score compared to the lowest tertile independently of age, sex, Body Mass Index, total screen time and smoking. In sub-analysis of education (<14 and ≥ 14 years of education), these findings were only significant in the high-SES group.
Conclusion: While diet quality was poorer in the low-SES group, an association between diet quality and lipidemic profile was not found, as increased central obesity and smoking prevalence might have confounded this association. These findings indicate the need for tailor-made interventions, guided by the specific risk factors identified per population sub groups.

Background: Piperine, a secondary metabolite, affects the antihyperlipidemic effect of Ezetimibe (EZ). Hyperlipidemia is one of the independent risk factors for cardiovascular disorders such as atherosclerosis. Antihyperlipidemic drugs are essential for reducing cardiovascular events and patient mortality.

Background: Humanitarian crises bring unique, and potentially growing challenges to people with type 1 diabetes (T1D). We aimed to determine, in youth with T1D (mean age (± 1SD) 0-17.9 years) within and coming from humanitarian crises settings (HCS), the reported prevalence that meet international consensus targets for glycaemic, blood pressure and lipid management, and incidence of severe hypoglycaemia or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Background: Perinatal growth and nutrition have been shown to be determinants in the programming of different tissues, such as adipose tissue, predisposing individuals to metabolic alterations later in life. Previous studies have documented an increased risk of metabolic disturbances and low-grade inflammation in prepubertal children with a history of extrauterine growth restriction (EUGR). The aim of this study was to evaluate possible alterations resulting from impaired growth during early childhood and their impact on young adult health.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the association between relative fat mass (RFM) and asthma, as well as to explore the mediating role of Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index (SII) and Systemic Inflammation Response Index (SIRI).
Methods: This cross-sectional study utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2007 to 2018. Associations between RFM and asthma were tested using multivariable logistic regressions, restricted cubic splines, subgroup analyses, and interaction tests, with mediation analysis for SII and SIRI.

Objective: Several studies have discussed the relationship between cholesterol and gallstones, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) as a representative of this has been addressed in various diseases. The metric neutrophil to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (NHR) derived from HDL-C has attracted much attention. The purpose of this article is to examine the relationship between NHR and gallstones in a population of American adults.
