The study examined an association between expectation of rejection and health care avoidance and delay (HAD) among lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) adults in South Korea. We analyzed data from a nationwide cross-sectional survey of 2175 South Korean LGB adults, which was approved by the Korea University Institutional Review Board. We categorized expectation of rejection into tertiles ("low," "medium," and "high" levels) and investigated its association with past 12-month HAD using multivariate modified Poisson regression. After adjusting for covariates, including experiences of discrimination, participants with high levels of expectation of rejection had 1.38-times (95% confidence interval: 1.16-1.65) higher prevalence of HAD compared with those with low levels. Living in anticipation of rejection can negatively impact LGB adults' health care utilization.

Interpersonal Perfectionism and Perceived Control's Influence on the Continuity of Sports Practice in Adolescents.

Based on the theory of planned behavior, the objective was to test a theoretical model that explains the intention to continue practicing sports among adolescents currently involved in sports practice in Mexicali based on factors that generate perceived social pressure to be perfect (perceived descriptive norm) and that lead to internal factors of perceived control (perceived competence, general self-concept, and enjoyment). A battery of questionnaires that measured the study variables was applied to 195 adolescent athletes of both sexes. The causal model with observed variables rejected part of the hypothesis since the athletes' perception that their parents impose high performance expectations on them and that they criticize them when these expectations are not achieved was not associated with the athletes' perceived competence.

In adaptive beamforming, the array signal processing adjusts its sensor delays and weights based on the incoming data. In conventional beamforming, these parameters are instead given from a predefined model. Adaptive beamformers can improve measurement precision by dynamically rejecting spatial interference.

Solar energy-driven steam generation is a renewable, energy-efficient technology that can alleviate the global clean water shortage through seawater desalination. However, the contradiction between resistance to salinity accretion and maintaining high water evaporation properties remains a challenging bottleneck. Herein, we have developed a biomimetic multiscale-ordered hydrogel-based solar water evaporator for efficient seawater desalination.

Traditional decision-making models conceptualize humans as adaptive learners utilizing the differences between expected and actual rewards (prediction errors, PEs) to maximize outcomes, but rarely consider the influence of violations of emotional expectations (emotional PEs) and how it differs from reward PEs. Here, we conducted a fMRI experiment (n = 43) using a modified Ultimatum Game to examine how reward and emotional PEs affect punishment decisions in terms of rejecting unfair offers. Our results revealed that reward relative to emotional PEs exerted a stronger prediction to punishment decisions.
