Published: March 2022

A method for the photoinduced evolution of atomic oxygen from pyridazine -oxides was developed. This underexplored oxygen allotrope mediates arene C-H oxidation within complex, polyfunctional molecules. A water-soluble pyridazine -oxide was also developed and shown to promote photoinduced DNA cleavage in aqueous solution. Taken together, these studies highlight the utility of pyridazine -oxides as photoactivatable O(P) precursors for applications in organic synthesis and chemical biology.

Thyroid hormone and the Liver.

Hepatol Commun

January 2025

Department of Medicine, Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, Boston Medical Center, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

It is known that thyroid hormone can regulate hepatic metabolic pathways including cholesterol, de novo lipogenesis, fatty acid oxidation, lipophagy, and carbohydrate metabolism. Thyroid hormone action is mediated by the thyroid hormone receptor (THR) isoforms and their coregulators, and THRβ is the main isoform expressed in the liver. Dysregulation of thyroid hormone levels, as seen in hypothyroidism, has been associated with dyslipidemia and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease.

Luminol/PtCo@rGO and Au@CNTs-based electrochemiluminescence cytosensor for ultrasensitive detection of breast cancer CTCs.

Anal Chim Acta

January 2025

Laboratory Medicine Center, Department of Clinical Laboratory, Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital (Affiliated People's Hospital), Hangzhou Medical College, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. Electronic address:

Background: Breast cancer CTCs have recently been recognized as an emerging biomarker for liquid biopsy of breast cancer. In this work, based on two-dimensional (2D) noble metal PtCo@rGO nanozymes and Au@CNTs bioconjugates, a novel electrochemiluminescence (ECL) cytosensor was developed in order to detect breast cancer CTCs (MCF-7) ultrasensitively.

Results: The PtCo@rGO nanozymes possessed large specific surface area and high efficiency peroxidase-like activity, which can be used as nanocarriers to anchor and catalyze luminol ECL emission efficiently.

Chiral Cobalt Nanocluster-Driven Chemiluminescent System for the Facile Discrimination of Carnitine Enantiomers with a Hydrogel-Assisted Strategy.

Anal Chem

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Luminescence Analysis and Molecular Sensing (Ministry of Education), College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Southwest University, Chongqing 400715, China.

Facile chiral discrimination without relying on chromatographic techniques has long been a huge challenge due to the minimal differences in the physicochemical properties of enantiomers. Polysaccharide hydrogels with natural chiral selectivity can be promising materials for constructing chiral discrimination platforms. In this study, l-cysteine-induced cobalt nanoclusters (LC-CoNCs) were prepared and utilized as chiral nanozymes for promoting the chemiluminescent (CL) signal of a luminol-HO system.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers synthesized sub-1 nanometer CuO-PMA nanosheets that significantly boosted CL emissions over 1000 times when used with a luminol-HO system by generating more reactive oxygen species.
  • * This study led to the development of a highly sensitive CL sensor for quercetin detection with a strong linear relationship and low detection limit, providing a simple and cost-effective detection method.
