[Clinical characteristics and prognosis of acute erythroleukemia in children].

Zhongguo Dang Dai Er Ke Za Zhi

January 2025

Department of Children's Hematology and Oncology, First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou 450052, China.

Objectives: To investigate the clinical characteristics and prognosis of acute erythroleukemia (AEL) in children.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data, treatment, and prognosis of 8 children with AEL treated at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2013 to December 2023.

Results: Among the 7 patients with complete bone marrow morphological analysis, 4 exhibited trilineage dysplasia, with a 100% incidence of erythroid dysplasia (7/7), a 71% incidence of myeloid dysplasia (5/7), and a 57% incidence of megakaryocytic dysplasia (4/7).

Acute inflammation induces acute megakaryopoiesis with impaired platelet production during fetal hematopoiesis.

Hematopoietic development is tightly regulated by various factors. The role of RNA m6A modification during fetal hematopoiesis, particularly in megakaryopoiesis, remains unclear. Here, we demonstrate that loss of m6A methyltransferase METTL3 induces formation of double-stranded RNAs (dsRNAs) and activates acute inflammation during fetal hematopoiesis.

Erythroleukemia, a complex myeloproliferative disorder presenting as acute or chronic, is characterized by aberrant proliferation and differentiation of erythroid cells. Although nootkatone, a sesquiterpene derived from grapefruit peel and Alaska yellow cedar, has shown anticancer activity predominantly in solid tumors, its effects in erythroleukemia remain unexplored. This study aimed to investigate the impact of nootkatone and its derivatives on erythroleukemia.

Acute posterior multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy (APMPPE) is an exceptionally rare inflammatory disorder affecting choroid and retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells. Although recent studies suggest an immune-driven nature, the underlying etiology of APMPPE remains elusive. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive investigation on the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) profile of an APMPPE patient using single-cell RNA sequencing.

Identifying inflammation-induced leukocyte subsets and their derived circulating factors has been instrumental in understanding the progession of ALI/ARDS. Nevertheless, how primary inflammation-induced non-leukocyte populations in distal organs contribute to ALI/ARDS remains poorly defined. Here, we report one population of erythroblast-like cells (Ter-cells) deriving from megakaryocyte- erythroid progenitor cells with a unique Ter-119+CD45-CD71+ phenotype in ALI/ARDS.
