The blood-testis barrier is a specialized feature within the mammalian testis, located in close proximity to the basement membrane of seminiferous tubules. This barrier serves to divide the seminiferous epithelium into distinct basal and adluminal (apical) compartments. The selectivity of the BTB to foreign particles makes it a safe haven for the virus, and the high affinity of HIV for testis might lead to the vertical transmission of the virus.

Purpose: In type 2 Diabetes, β-cell failure is caused by loss of cell mass, mostly by apoptosis, but also by simple dysfunction (dedifferentiation, decline of glucose-stimulated insulin secretion). Apoptosis and dysfunction are caused, at least in part, by glucotoxicity, in which increased flux of glucose in the hexosamine biosynthetic pathway plays a role. In this study, we sought to clarify whether increased hexosamine biosynthetic pathway flux affects another important aspect of β-cell physiology, that is β-cell-β-cell homotypic interactions.

Thrombin-induced endothelial permeability is associated with various pathological conditions. Apoptosis signal-regulating kinase-1 (ASK1), one of the upstream MAP3K, has been reported to be an important regulator of endothelial stress and apoptosis. Despite this, its role in endothelial permeability is unknown.

The adult neocortex is a six-layered structure, consisting of nearly continuous layers of neurons that are generated in a temporally strictly coordinated order. During development, cortical neurons originating from the ventricular zone migrate toward the Reelin-containing marginal zone in an inside-out arrangement. Focal adhesion kinase (FAK), one tyrosine kinase localizing to focal adhesions, has been shown to be phosphorylated at tyrosine 925 (Y925) by Src, an important downstream molecule of Reelin signaling.
