Unlabelled: Although a variety of tools to monitor recovery have been developed, many are impractical for daily use due to cost, time, and challenges with interpretation. The Perceived Recovery Status (PRS) scale was recently developed as an expeditious, noninvasive tool to assess recovery status. While PRS has been strongly associated with repeated sprinting performance, a paucity of research exists relating PRS and performance recovery following resistance exercise.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the sensitivity of PRS as a subjective marker of recovery up to 72 hours after a high-volume back-squat protocol.

Methods: Eleven resistance-trained men reported to the laboratory on 5 separate occasions (1 familiarization session and 4 testing sessions). The first testing session was considered the baseline session and consisted of a nonfatiguing performance assessment (ie, countermovement jumps and back squats) and a fatiguing back-squat protocol of 8 sets of 10 at 70% 1-repetition maximum separated by 2 minutes of recovery. Participants returned 24, 48, and 72 hours following baseline to provide a PRS rating and complete the performance assessment.

Results: Repeated-measures correlations revealed strong associations between PRS countermovement jump (r = .84) and mean bar velocity (r = .80) (both P < .001).

Conclusions: The current findings suggest that PRS can be used as a method to effectively assess daily recovery following a fatiguing bout of resistance exercise. Practitioners are cautioned that the relationship between PRS and performance recovery is individualized, and equivalent PRS scores between individuals are not indicative of similar recovery.

Purpose Of Review: To increase knowledge of the natural history of recovery and long-term outcome following severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI).

Recent Findings: Recovery of consciousness and complex behaviors that presage subsequent functional recovery frequently occurs well beyond the first 7 days after injury, which is typically the time period widely used in the ICU for prognostic decision-making and establishing goals of care for. Similarly, recovery of functional independence occurs between 1 and 10 years postinjury in a substantial proportion of patients who do not recover command-following during the acute hospitalization.

Purpose: This observational cohort study aimed to identify predictive factors associated with pain-related quality of recovery among patients undergoing elective gastrointestinal and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery.

Patients And Methods: This study involved a secondary analysis of the data collected from five hospitals across all healthcare regions in Norway to validate the Norwegian version of the Quality of Recovery-15 (QoR-15NO). The sample consisted of 268 adult patients who underwent elective gastrointestinal and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery between September 2021 and May 2022.

Soft tissue sarcomas (STSs) are rare malignancies, with retroperitoneal soft tissue sarcoma (RPS) constituting 10%-15% of all STSs. RPS often presents late due to minimal early symptoms, typically requiring complete en-bloc resection for optimal survival outcomes. Achieving radical resection can be challenging due to the tumor's proximity to vital organs.

Perioperative fluid therapy is a pivotal component of surgical patient management, as appropriate fluid administration can significantly enhance postoperative recovery. To standardize perioperative fluid therapy for adult patients in China, the Geriatric Anesthesia and Perioperative Management Group of the Chinese Society of Anesthesiology has developed the "Clinical Practice Guidelines for Perioperative Fluid Therapy in Chinese Adult Patients". Based on current clinical status in China, this guideline addressed 11 key areas based on clinical evidence, more than 30% of which is from China researchers, including principles for the selection of common fluid types, preoperative fasting and hydration following enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols, intraoperative fluid requirements for adult patients, perioperative volume assessment, perioperative evaluation of volume overload/insufficiency, goal-directed fluid therapy, restrictive fluid therapy, perioperative fluid therapy strategies for high-risk patients, fluid resuscitation for massive blood loss, the relationship between perioperative fluid therapy and postoperative complications, and the relationship between perioperative fluid therapy and ERAS.

Influence of an impacted estuary on the reproduction of an endangered endemic fish.

Aquatic Health Program, UC Davis, 1 Shields Ave, Davis, CA 95616, USA.

Health and nutrition of individuals are tied to reproductive success, which determines population viability. Environmental variability and anthropogenic effects can affect the health and nutrition of a species leading to reproductive repercussions which can hinder recovery of endangered populations. Indices of health and nutrition were examined for an imperiled species, delta smelt, Hypomesus transpacificus, in relation to their reproductive status to evaluate the effects of hydrologic conditions in the San Francisco Estuary and Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.
