We sequenced the NH2 terminus of the large and small subunits of the periplasmic hydrogenase from the sulfate-reducing bacterium Desulfovibrio vulgaris (Hildenborough) and found that the small subunit lacks a region of 34 NH4-terminal amino acids coded by the gene for the small subunit (G. Voordouw and S. Brenner, Eur. J. Biochem. 148:515-520, 1985). We suggest that this region constitutes a signal peptide based on comparison with known procaryotic signal peptides.

In this study, the impact of the varying environments, wet-cool (2017), dry-hot (2018), and fluctuating (2019), on two spring wheat genotypes, Diskett and Bumble, grown in field conditions in southern Sweden was studied. From harvested grains, polymeric gluten proteins were fractionated and collected using SE-HPLC and then analyzed with LC-MS/MS. Proteins and peptides identified through searches against the protein sequences of (taxon 4565) from the UniProtKB database showed 7 high molecular weight glutenin subunits (HMW-GS) and 24 low molecular weight glutenin subunits (LMW-GS) with different enrichment levels for both genotypes.

Yeast strains representing a novel asexual ascomycetous species were isolated from seven flowers. Sequencing of the chromosomal regions coding for the D1/D2 domains of the large subunit ribosomal RNA, the ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 segments and parts of the gene coding for the small subunit ribosomal RNA showed that the isolates were conspecific.

Plasma markers of astrocytic function and injury, such as S100 calcium-binding protein B (S100b), have gained increased attention in relation to BBB integrity and cognition. Background: An optimized 6 amino acid peptide (NLSYYT; herein YΦ) derived from the C-terminus of h19S proteasome activator Rpt5 has been shown to activate the 20S proteasome and promote tau degradation. Further analysis of this peptide has identified the highly conserved leucine in position 5 (P5) as a key part of the 20S activation mechanism to drive degradation of tau monomers in the absence of proteasome activator complexes.

Method: Recombinant peptides were used to identify key amino acids required for binding and activating the h20S proteasome.
