The prevalence of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium has increased rapidly, and in Denmark, we are facing an endemic outbreak situation in hospitals. The aim of this study was to use whole-genome sequencing (WGS) and core genome multilocus sequencing typing (cgMLST) to determine the duration of VREfm outbreaks and thereby evaluate the effect of our infection control strategies. We included all VREfm isolates from six hospitals in the Capital Region of Denmark that were sequenced between 2012 and 2020. Ward data were collected from our laboratory information system. A ward outbreak was defined as two patient samples from the same ward within a period of 30 days belonging to the same cgMLST cluster. cgMLST complex types were determined using Ridom SeqSphere v7.2.3, where a maximum of 20 allelic differences between isolates defines a cluster. We included 1690 patient isolates between 2012 and 2020. Our collection consisted of 45 unique clusters and 227 ward outbreaks. The median duration of outbreaks was 20 days. We reported a median outbreak duration of VREfm outbreaks based on WGS data to be 20 days, and thus concluded that our infection control precautions are adequate.

The global spread of extended-spectrum cephalosporinase-producing (producing extended-spectrum -lactamase or plasmid-borne AmpC, hereafter ESC-Ec) is a major public health concern. Whilst extensively studied in high-income countries, the transmission pathways between humans and animals in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) remain unclear. In rural Cambodia, the asymptomatic carriage and transmission dynamics of ESC-Ec between humans and animals living in close proximity are poorly understood, highlighting the need for targeted research in this area.

Aims: This study aimed to investigate the correlation between clot composition and stroke mechanisms in patients undergoing endovascular therapy (EVT), using proteomic analysis.
Methods: This study included 35 patients with ischemic stroke (cardioembolism [CE], n = 17; large artery atherosclerosis [LAA], n = 6; cancer-related [CR], n = 4; and undetermined (UD) cause, n = 8) who underwent EVT. Retrieved clots were proteomically analyzed to identify differentially expressed proteins associated with the three stroke mechanisms and to develop the machine learning model.

Introduction: CD20+ T-cells were described firstly in peripheral blood and later in bone marrow in patients with hematological tumors, and certain immune-mediated diseases. During our hematological diagnostic work, this peculiar subgroup of lymphocytes has been consistently observed associated with untreated monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) and myeloma (MM). Despite the expanding literature data, the exact function of CD20+ T cells remains unclear.

Background: Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV), the etiologic agent of Kaposi sarcoma, is human-specific and is thought to have emerged from primate-infecting gammaherpesviruses. KSHV seroprevalence shows geographic variation, being highest in sub-Saharan Africa, intermediate in the Mediterranean area, and low in most other locations. However, KSHV prevalence is also particularly high in specific regions such as the Miyako Islands (Japan).
