Presented here are the supplemental data of the research article "Urinary pteridines as a discriminator of atherosclerotic risk in patients with diabetes" [1]. These data provide the first information on variables that affect urinary levels of pteridines (oxidized-form pteridine derivatives) in patients with diabetes mellitus. In linear regression analysis, gender (women vs. men), current history of smoking and urinary albumin showed significant positive correlations with pteridines, while there were significant inverse correlations of pteridines with a history of alcohol drinking and body mass index. The above associations were confirmed by using analysis of covariance and logistic regression analysis. Among the eight variables (age, gender, medication therapy for diabetes, smoking, alcohol drinking, body mass index, hemoglobin A and urinary albumin) tested, smoking showed the strongest association with urinary pteridines.

Article Synopsis
  • Renal fibrosis is a significant issue in chronic kidney disease, with no existing treatments available to reverse it; the study explores the effects of Lebanese cannabis oil extract (COE) on renal injury induced by folic acid.
  • Rats were administered folic acid to induce renal fibrosis, followed by varying doses of COE; results showed that COE improved kidney function by decreasing serum creatinine levels and alleviating associated renal and cardiac damage.
  • In vitro tests demonstrated COE's ability to enhance podocyte cell viability and migration while also affecting key signaling pathways, suggesting potential therapeutic benefits of COE for kidney health.

Nephrotoxicity is a prominent complication of methotrexate (MTX) therapy that limits clinicians in its extensive use. MTX triggers oxidative burden and inflammation, so the nephroprotective potential of the synthetic derivative of 1,3,4-oxadiazole (5b) was explored in this research. Male Wistar rats were divided into four groups i.

Kidney fibrosis is a commonly observed pathological condition during development of chronic kidney disease. Therapeutic options currently available are effective only in slowing the progression of kidney fibrosis and there is no cure for this disease. Aberrant expression and excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins in the peritubular space is a characteristic pathological feature of fibrotic kidney.

Introduction: Micronutrients influence female fertility, thus adequate levels are important for oocyte quality, maturation, fertilisation and implantation. This study prospectively evaluated the impact of oral multinutrient supplementation on fertility outcomes in In vitro fertilisation or Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI).

Materials And Methods: This was a pilot study of N=50 women, who were planning for IVF treatment in University Malaya Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from July to December 2023.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a global public health problem with its pathogenesis not fully understood. Excessive apoptosis of renal tubular epithelial cells is an important feature of AKI patients, and therefore an anti-apoptotic approach could be used in the treatment for AKI. Up-regulation of B-cell lymphoma-2 () gene and protein has been found to be correlated with anti-apoptosis of cells.
