Objective: To determine the effect of cumulative dissipated energy (CDE) on complications and visual outcome following cataract surgery in dogs.
Animals Studied: Records of 182 canine eyes that had undergone cataract surgery.
Procedures: Retrospective medical record review was conducted on dogs that underwent unilateral or bilateral elective cataract surgery by a single surgeon. Preoperative variables such as age, cataract duration, and pre-existing conditions were recorded. Intraoperative variables such as intraocular lens (IOL) status, phacoemulsification time, average power, irrigation fluid volume, and CDE were recorded. Postoperative complications and visual status at last follow-up were compared to these variables.
Results: Eighty-six percent of dogs were visual in one or both eyes at last follow-up (LFU) examination. Median follow-up time was 186 days postoperatively. Eyes that developed glaucoma had a significantly greater mean CDE (77.73 ± 80.11) than eyes that did not develop glaucoma (49.21 ± 38.93). Eyes that remained visual at the LFU examination had a significantly lower mean CDE (48.31 ± 37.14) than eyes that were blind at LFU (82.05 ± 82.73). Significantly lower mean CDEs were found in diabetic eyes, younger eyes, early-operated eyes (<1 month duration), and eyes with preoperative lens-induced uveitis.
Conclusions: Higher CDE may be associated with an increased risk of postoperative glaucoma and loss of vision in dogs. Cumulative dissipated energy may be a useful prognostic indicator for success of canine cataract surgery.

The use of tissues of porcine origin has gained significant momentum in the scientific community due to their anatomical and physiological resemblance to human tissues. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the key biological features of porcine ocular structures, including the cornea, conjunctiva, and associated tissues, in comparison to their human counterparts. Additionally, this review outlined the ex vivo applications of these tissues in the study of different biological processes and the simulation of pathological conditions.

Purpose: To compare changes in angle morphology, anterior chamber depth (ACD) and refractive prediction error (PE) after phacoemulsification between pseudoexfoliative (PEX) and non-PEX eyes.
Methods: Prospective case-control study of eyes submitted to cataract surgery. Biometric data and angle parameters - Anterior Chamber Angle (ACA), Angle Opening Distance (AOD), Scleral Spur Angles (SSA) and Trabecular Iris Space Area (TISA) - were measured preoperatively and 1-month postoperatively through swept-source anterior segment optical coherence tomography.

Imaginal exposure is a standard procedure of cognitive behavioral therapy for the treatment of anxiety and panic disorders. It is often used when in vivo exposure is not possible, too stressful for patients, or would be too expensive. The Bio-Informational Theory implies that imaginal exposure is effective because of the perceptual proximity of mental imagery to real events, whereas empirical findings suggest that propositional thought of fear stimuli (i.

The link between the cognitive effort of word processing and the eye movement patterns elicited by that word is well established in psycholinguistic research using eye tracking. Yet less evidence or consensus exists regarding whether the same link exists between complexity linguistic complexity measures of a sentence or passage, and eye movements registered at the sentence or passage level. This paper focuses on "global" measures of syntactic and lexical complexity, i.

Carotenoids are known for their antioxidant and vision protection roles, with dietary supplements often promoted for eye health. An initial trial, the European Nutrition in Glaucoma Management (ENIGMA), assessed macular pigment optical density (MPOD) and other ocular parameters before and after supplementing glaucoma patients with macular pigment (MP) carotenoids. The trial confirmed significant improvements in clinical ocular health.
