Enzyme-like nanomaterials have received significant attention for their high stability and low cost. However, most nanomaterials require complicated synthesis processes, limiting the range of their potential applications. In this study, a novel cerium-based nanomaterial was fabricated in a facile manner from a mixture of dipicolinic acid (DPA), guanosine 5'-monophosphate (GMP), and cerium acetate under ambient conditions. The obtained nanomaterial, designated as DPA-Ce-GMP, exhibited superior oxidase-like activity owing to the mixed valence (Ce/Ce) of cerium ions. DPA-Ce-GMP efficiently catalyzed the oxidation of 3,3,5,5-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB), achieving a color reaction without requiring hydrogen peroxide. Thus, DPA-Ce-GMP was incorporated into a simple, rapid, and sensitive colorimetric sensor for glutathione (GSH) detection. Within this sensor, TMB oxidation is inhibited by the reducibility of GSH. The sensor exhibits a linear response over two concentration ranges (0.05-10 and 10-40 μM), and its detection limit is 17.1 nM (3σ/slope). The proposed sensor was successfully applied to GSH quantification in food samples. The developed sensor provides an efficient biomimic oxidase for GSH detection in real samples. Facile approach to prepare cerium-based nanomaterial with superior oxidase-like activity for colorimetric detection of glutathione in food samples.

An innovative integrated three-dimensional (3D) bioprinted gastric microtissue electrochemical biosensor was developed in this study for the detection of allergen ovalbumin (OVA). In this system, OVA triggers the release of histamine from gastric microtissue, which then undergoes a redox reaction on the electrode surface, leading to an increase in the peak current. Gelatin methacrylate hydrogel serves as a scaffold for the 3D culture of RBL-2H3 and PC-12 cells for partially restoring allergic reactions in the human body in vitro.

The mononuclear phagocytic system clears the circulating inorganic nanomaterials from the bloodstream, which raises concerns about the chronic toxicity of the accumulated metal species. A better understanding of the behavior of each metal after systemic injection is thus required for clinical translations. This study investigates the significance of the metal-ligand interaction on the accumulation of cerium and demonstrates that only the form in which cerium is coordinated to a multidentate chelator with a strong binding affinity does not accumulate in major organs.

The synthesis and characterization of [Ce(PPPA)(OH)]·4HO, wherein PPPA denotes 3-(hydroxy(phenyl)phosphoryl)propanoate, were conducted. Its potential as a flame-retardant additive for poly(L-lactic acid) (PLA) in conjunction with ammonium polyphosphate (APP) was investigated. Remarkably, with just incorporation of the 1 % Ce-complex and 4 % APP, the resulting PLA composite (PLA-8) meets the V-0 standard, exhibiting an impressive limiting oxygen index (LOI) of 29.

The efficacy of traditional radiotherapy (RT) has been severely limited by its significant side effects, as well as tumor hypoxia. Here, the nanoscale cerium (Ce)-based metaloxo clusters (Ce(IV))-porphyrin (meso-tetra (4-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin, TCPP) framework loaded with L-arginine (LA) (denoted as LA@Ce(IV)-TCPP) is developed to serve as a multifarious radio enhancer to heighten X-ray absorption and energy transfer accompanied by O/NO generation for hypoxia-improved RT-radiodynamic therapy (RDT) and gas therapy. Within tumor cells, LA@Ce(IV)-TCPP will first react with endogenous HO and inducible NO synthase (iNOS) to produce O and NO to respectively increase the oxygen supply and reduce oxygen consumption, thus alleviating tumor hypoxia.
