Objective: To identify the associations between gestational cholesterol levels and the risk of postpartum hypercholesterolemia, and to establish trimester-specific reference values.
Methods: Serum lipids at gestational weeks 6-8, 16, 24, and 36, and 42 days postpartum were derived from 905 pregnant women of a prospective cohort. The major outcome was postpartum hypercholesterolemia.

Background: Establishing local trimester-specific reference intervals for gestational TSH and free T4 (FT4) is often not feasible, necessitating alternative strategies. We aimed to systematically quantify the diagnostic performance of standardized modifications of center-specific nonpregnancy reference intervals as compared to trimester-specific reference intervals.

Background-aim: Pregnancy induces physiological changes that can affect serologic and immunologic markers, potentially resulting in lower or undetectable haptoglobin values compared to non-pregnant counterparts. Such variations may lead to inaccurate diagnosis of hemolysis.
Methods: We report a case of a patient in second trimester of pregnancy receiving induction chemotherapy due to B-cell acute lymphocytic leukemia with undetectable haptoglobin levels in a routine laboratory sample collected less than 12 h posttransfusion of red cell unit.

This underscores the necessity of defining trimester-specific reference intervals for thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels. Differences in population characteristics, including ethnicity, socio-economic factors, iodine prophylaxis, and obesity, emphasize the need to establish trimester-specific TSH ranges for women of reproductive age in the respective region or center.

Objective: To assess the diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound for detecting placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) during the first trimester of pregnancy and compare it with the accuracy of second- and third-trimester ultrasound examination in pregnancies at risk for PAS.
Methods: PubMed, EMBASE and Web of Science databases were searched to identify relevant studies published from inception until 10 March 2023. Inclusion criteria were cohort, case-control or cross-sectional studies that evaluated the accuracy of ultrasound examination performed at < 14 weeks of gestation (first trimester) or ≥ 14 weeks of gestation (second/third trimester) for the diagnosis of PAS in pregnancies with clinical risk factors.
