Many fluorophores display interesting features that make them useful biological labels and dyes, particularly in Cell Biology and Cytogenetics. Changes in the absorption-emission spectra (ortho- and metachromasia) are accounted among them. Acridine orange (AO) is one of such fluorochromes with an exemplary orthochromatic vs.

A Cyanobacterial outbreak in Lake Avernus: targeted and untargeted analyses and follow up actions for food safety.

Chemosphere

December 2024

Department of Chemistry, Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale del Mezzogiorno, via Salute 2, Portici (Naples) 80055, Italy.

A massive Planktothrix rubescens bloom was observed during 2022 in the Lake Avernus, a volcanic lake located in Campania Region (Southern Italy). The cyanobacterial mass migrated, through a channel, to the near Gulf of Pozzuoli, causing the contamination of two marine sites dedicated to mussel farming, thus posing a potential risk for consumers' health. Mussel and water samples, from both the sea and the lake were collected weekly and analyzed by liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry, for identification and quantification of 10 microcystins.

Introduction: Primary bone marrow diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is a rare clinical entity, and the "bone marrow-liver-spleen" type of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is rarer, with only a few published cases in literature. Though bone marrow-liver-spleen-type diffuse large B-cell lymphoma has unique presentations such as fever, cytopenias, and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, no cases with cold autoimmune hemolytic anemia have been reported.

Case Presentation: A 39-year-old Sri Lankan woman, previously healthy, presented with shortness of breath, productive cough, and fever for 4 days.

Background: Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) is a systemic non-inflammatory disorder characterized by enthesopathy and osteophyte formation. DISH can also cause several other symptoms. Limited range of motion (ROM) is the most common symptom; however, dysphagia and respiratory distress are clinically important symptoms.

We report the noninvasive imaging diagnosis of a massive right atrial lipoma in a young male patient. Echocardiography and myocardial contrast echocardiography were used to assess echo intensity, tumor size, anatomic boundary, hemodynamics, and contrast agent perfusion. Dual-source CT revealed that the CT value of the tumor was fat density.
