Occupational Therapists' Role in Maternal Health in the Home Environment After Cesarean Section.

Am J Occup Ther

January 2025

Alysha Skuthan, PhD, OTR/L, CWHS, is Assistant Professor, Department of Occupational Therapy, Shenandoah University, Winchester, VA.

Cesarean sections (c-sections) are the most commonly performed surgery in the United States, and the country is currently facing a maternal health crisis. Elevated RBP4 in Subclinical Ketosis Cows Inhibits Follicular Granulosa Cell Proliferation and Steroid Hormone Synthesis.

Animals (Basel)

October 2024

Anhui Province Key Laboratory of Livestock and Poultry Product Safety Engineering, Institute of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, Anhui Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Hefei 230031, China.

The mechanism by which subclinical ketosis (SCK) causes postpartum reproductive disorders in dairy cows remains unclear. In this study, cows within the day 14 to 21 postpartum period were categorized into the SCK group or the control group. Subsequently, they were monitored until 45 d to 60 d postpartum and divided into the SCK anestrus group (SCK-AE, = 12) and the control estrus group (C-E, = 12).

Caveolin 1 ameliorates nonesterified fatty acid-induced oxidative stress via the autophagy regulator beclin 1 in bovine mammary gland epithelial cells.

J Dairy Sci

January 2025

State Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Severe Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, Key Laboratory for Zoonosis Research of the Ministry of Education, Institute of Zoonosis, and College of Veterinary Medicine, Jilin University, Changchun 130062, China. Electronic address:

High blood concentrations of nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) during ketosis enhance uptake by the mammary gland and impair autophagy while causing oxidative stress. Caveolin 1 (CAV1) is closely related to autophagy and plays a role in regulating oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to explore the potential role of CAV1 on oxidative stress and autophagy during a high-NEFA challenge in the immortalized bovine mammary epithelial cell line (MAC-T).
