The influence of Ar gas additives on ≪black silicon≫ formation is shown in this work. The way to achieve the conical shape of Si texture using low Ar dilution is demonstrated. Also, a possibility of silicon nanowire width reduction keeping a high density of array is shown. No damage to the Si structure caused by Ar plasma was detected. The introduction of Ar into the plasma also does not affect electrical properties. The lifetime value after cryogenic etching with 5 sccm Ar flow remains at the same level of 0.7 ms. The resulting black silicon has a low total reflectance of 1 ± 0.5% in the range of 450-1000 nm in the overall 100 mm Si wafer surface.

Reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) is a widely used end-of-life (EoL) material in asphalt pavements to increase the material circularity. However, the performance loss due to using RAP in the asphalt binder layer often requires a thicker layer, leading to additional material usage, energy consumption, and transportation effort. In this study, we developed a parametric and probabilistic life cycle assessment (LCA) framework to robustly compare various pavement designs incorporating recycled materials.

In this study, the effect of additives on particulate matter (PM) and flue gas emissions during the co-combustion of poultry waste and pine woodchips in air and oxy-fuel combustion conditions was examined. The appropriate additive for the fuel mixture to reduce PM emissions has been selected by a fast screening method based on thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) in oxygen environment. Among the additives CaHPO, MgCO, MnCO, MgPO, kaolin, CaO, and Zn, the most suitable ones were determined as Zn and MgCO.

Identification of Volatile Compounds in Pennycress Protein Isolates Produced by Both Alkaline and Salt-Based Processes.

J Agric Food Chem

January 2025

Department of Food Science and Nutrition, University of Minnesota, 1334 Eckles Avenue, St. Paul, Minnesota 55108, United States.

Volatile off-notes in ground pennycress seeds, ground defatted pennycress seed, and the final protein isolates (produced from the defatted seeds by alkaline or salt extraction) were identified and "quantified" relative to an internal standard. Volatiles contributing off-notes were identified based on mass spectra, retention indices, and aroma descriptors. The compounds that produced the strongest odors based on gas chromatography:olfactometry were identified as potential aroma impact compounds.

Aim: this study aimed to examine the effect of different storage times (0, 7, 24, 57, and 119 days) on the volatile components of Shenling Baizhu powder across different preparation processes (Pharmacopoeia, ultra-micro pulverization-pulverization, and microparticle design methods). The findings offer insights to guide quality control measures for Shenling Baizhu powder.

Methods: gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (GC-IMS) was employed to ascertain the volatile components in Shenling Baizhu powder at various storage times across different preparation processes.
