Background: We aimed to explore the factors associated with health promotion behavior of international students in South Korea.

Methods: The convenience sample of 263 participants was recruited from two universities in Gangwon-do and Jeollanam-do, South Korea. The data were collected by using structured questionnaires from Apr to Jun 2019. Demographic characteristics, health conception, acculturative stress, self-efficacy, interpersonal support, and health promotion behavior were assessed. T-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression analyses were used for statistical analyses.

Results: Participants from Vietnam (=.040), with more health conception (<.001), more acculturative stress (<.001), more self-efficacy (<.001), and greater interpersonal support (<.001) were more likely to engage in more health promotion behaviors.

Conclusion: This study is meaningful as it collected the data on which to design health promotion programs for international students. Future studies are needed to investigate further factors relating to international students' health promotion behavior, including internal and external environments.

The relationship between serum vitamin C levels and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein in children.

Sci Rep

The relationship between vitamin C nutritional status and inflammation has garnered increasing attention, but studies in younger populations are limited. This study aimed to investigate the association between serum vitamin C and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels in children and adolescents. A cross-sectional analysis was conducted using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).

Untangling areas of improvement in secondary prevention of ischemic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation.

Improvement of post-stroke outcomes relies on patient adherence and appropriate therapy maintenance by physicians. However, comprehensive evaluation of these factors is often overlooked. This study assesses secondary stroke prevention by differentiating patient adherence to antithrombotic treatments (ATT) from physician-initiated interruptions or switches.

This study aimed to calculate Italy's first national maternal mortality ratio (MMR) through an innovative record-linkage approach within the enhanced Italian Obstetric Surveillance System (ItOSS). A record-linkage retrospective cohort study was conducted nationwide, encompassing all women aged 11-59 years with one or more hospitalizations related to pregnancy or pregnancy outcomes from 2011 to 2019. Maternal deaths were identified by integrating data from the Death Registry and national and regional Hospital Discharge Databases supported by the integration of findings from confidential enquiries conducted through active surveillance.

Objective: This study aimed to examine the levels of physical activity (PA), sleep, and mental health (MH), specifically depression, anxiety, and stress, among Chinese university students. It also aimed to analyze the influencing factors of MH, providing a theoretical foundation for developing intervention programs to improve college students' mental health.

Methods: A stratified, clustered, and phased sampling method was employed.

Refining minimal engineered receptors for specific activation of on-target signaling molecules.

Sci Rep

Laboratory of Cell Vaccine, Microbial Research Center for Health and Medicine (MRCHM), National Institutes of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition (NIBIOHN), 7-6-8 Saito-Asagi, Ibaraki-Shi, Osaka, 567-0085, Japan.

Since designer cells are attracting much attention as a new modality in gene and cell therapy, it would be advantageous to develop synthetic receptors that recognize artificial ligands and activate solely signaling molecules of interest. In this study, we refined the construction of our previously developed minimal engineered receptors (MERs) to avoid off-target activation of STAT5 while maintaining on-target activation of signaling molecules corresponding to tyrosine motifs. Among the myristoylated, cytoplasmic, and transmembrane types of MERs, the cytoplasmic type had the highest signaling efficiency, although there was off-target activation of STAT5 upon ligand stimulation.
