Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of transperitoneal and retroperitoneal laparoscopic ureterolithotomy (TLU and RLU).

Materials And Methods: We undertook a literature search PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library. Search date will range from inception to January 1, 2020. The final article results will be analyzed using StataSE 12 software. This meta-analysis was reported according to PRISMA guidelines, and a protocol was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42020160906).

Results: Eleven articles eventually met the requirements, involving a total of 609 patients. The final result shows the operative time (Std. Mean Difference [SMD] = 0.58; 95% CI 0.36-0.80; p < 0.01), hospital stay (SMD = 0.26; 95% CI 0.02-0.49; p = 0.031), and the complication of paralytic ileus (risk difference = 0.11; 95% CI 0.05-0.17; p < 0.01) are significant difference between TLU and RLU, and TLU are higher or longer.

Conclusions: Our meta-analysis suggests that if there are no other constraints, it is better to choose RLU. And more clinical trial data are needed to confirm this conclusion.

Purpose: To evaluate the predictors of delayed discharge for patients undergoing robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) at our Institution since the introduction of the single port (SP) robotic system.

Methods: We performed a retrospective review of our prospectively maintained database of patients undergoing RAPN from September 2020 to August 2024. Patients were categorized by the postoperative day of their discharge: POD1 (single overnight stay) or POD > 1 (more than one night stay).

Objective: To compare the effects of transperitoneal and retroperitoneal approaches for robotic assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC).

Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study on RAPN at Affiliated Hospital of Jiangsu University. Between September 2020 and February 2024, the included patients underwent either transperitoneal approach or retroperitoneal approach.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the differences in perioperative outcomes between transperitoneal and retroperitoneal techniques in cutaneous ureterostomy (CUS).

Methods: Between 2018 and 2023, 55 patients underwent CUS following robot-assisted radical cystectomy. Among the 55 patients, we compared 33 patients who underwent transperitoneal CUS (t-CUS) and 22 who underwent retroperitoneal CUS (r-CUS).

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares outcomes and complications of two types of laparoscopic surgery for large kidney stones: retroperitoneal laparoscopic pyelolithotomy (RLP) and transperitoneal laparoscopic pyelolithotomy (TLP), analyzing data from 273 patients.
  • Findings show that while stone size was larger in the TLP group, both types had similar operation times, hospital stays, and complication rates, except for a significantly higher rate of postoperative fever in the TLP group.
  • The study concludes that RLP may be a better alternative to TLP due to the lower incidence of postoperative fever, suggesting it could be a preferred method for treating large kidney stones.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare two surgical approaches—transperitoneal laparoscopic pyelolithotomy (TLPL) and retroperitoneal laparoscopic pyelolithotomy (RLPL)—in treating large kidney stones over a period of ten years.
  • Both methods had similar demographic and clinical outcomes, such as operation time and stone sizes, but TLPL resulted in longer hospital stays, greater drops in hemoglobin, and higher rates of postoperative fever compared to RLPL.
  • Overall, the retroperitoneal approach showed benefits like shorter hospital stays and fewer complications, while both methods had similar success in effectively clearing the stones.
