Ubiquitination is a major type of post-translational modification of proteins in eukaryotes. The plant U-Box (PUB) E3 ligase is the smallest family in the E3 ligase superfamily, but plays a variety of essential roles in plant growth, development and response to diverse environmental stresses. Hence, PUBs are potential gene resources for developing climate-resilient crops. However, there is a lack of review of the latest advances to fully understand the powerful gene family. To bridge the gap and facilitate its use in future crop breeding, we comprehensively summarize the recent progress of the PUB family, including gene evolution, classification, biological functions, and multifarious regulatory mechanisms in plants.

Maize lethal necrosis (MLN) is a significant threat to food security in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), with limited commercial inbred lines displaying tolerance. This study analyzed the transcriptomes of four commercially used maize inbred lines and a non-adapted inbred line, all with varying response levels to MLN. RNA-Seq revealed differentially expressed genes in response to infection by maize chlorotic mottle virus (MCMV) and sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV), the causative agents of MLN.

Unlabelled: Seed germination is a tightly regulated, non-reversible developmental process, and it is crucial to prevent premature germination under conditions that may not allow the plant's life cycle to be completed. The plant hormone ABA is the key regulator of seed dormancy and inhibition of germination. ABA is also involved in the plant response to drought.

The ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) is a key protein degradation pathway in eukaryotes, in which E3 ubiquitin ligases mediate protein ubiquitination, directly or indirectly targeting substrate proteins to regulate various biological processes, including plant growth, hormone signaling, immune responses, and adaptation to abiotic stress. In this study, we identified plant U-box protein 51 in () as an E3 ubiquitin ligase through transcriptomic analysis, and used it as a candidate gene for gene-function analysis. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) was used to examine expression across different tissues, and its expression patterns under simulated drought stress induced by polyethylene glycol (PEG 6000) were assessed.

Fruit quality and yield are reduced when cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) plants are exposed to low temperature (LT) stress, yet, the inheritance and genes linked to cold tolerance in adult plants have not been reported yet. Here, the LT-tolerance of 120 cucumber accessions representing four ecotypes were evaluated by GWAS, and also, in 140 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from a biparental cross.

Ubiquitination is the specific modification of target proteins in cells by ubiquitin molecules, which is under the action of a series of special enzymes such as ubiquitin-activating enzymes, binding, and ligase enzymes. Ubiquitination plays an essential role in anthocyanin accumulation in plants. There are few studies on the coloring of pear peel by ubiquitin ligase E3.
