The impact of airborne molecular contaminants (AMCs) on the lifetime of fused silica UV optics in high power lasers (HPLs) is a critical issue. In this work, we demonstrated the on-line monitoring method of AMCs concentration based on the Sagnac microfiber structure. In the experiment, a Sagnac microfiber loop with mesoporous silica coating was fabricated by the microheater brushing technique and dip coating. The physical absorption of AMCs in the mesoporous coating results in modification of the surrounding refractive index (RI). By monitoring the spectral shift in the wavelength domain, the proposed structure can operate as an AMCs concentration sensor. The sensitivity of the AMCs sensor can achieve 0.11 nm (mg/m). By evaluating the gas discharge characteristic of four different low volatilization greases in a coarse vacuum environment, we demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed sensors. The use of these sensors was shown to be very promising for meeting the requirements of detecting trace amounts of contaminants.

In the process of ocean exploration, highly accurate and sensitive measurements of seawater temperature and pressure significantly impact the study of seawater's physical, chemical, and biological processes. In this paper, three different package structures, V-shape, square-shape, and semicircle-shape, are designed and fabricated, and an optical microfiber coupler combined Sagnac loop (OMCSL) is encapsulated in these structures with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). Then, the temperature and pressure response characteristics of the OMCSL, under different package structures, are analyzed by simulation and experiment.

Humidity plays an important role in many fields, and the realization of high sensitivity and fast response simultaneously for humidity detection is a great challenge in practical application. In this work, we demonstrated a high-performance relative humidity (RH) sensor made by supporting zeolitic imidazolate framework-90 (ZIF-90)-derived porous zinc oxide (ZnO) onto an optical microfiber Sagnac interferometer (OMSI). The ZIF-90-modified OMSI (ZIF-90-OMSI) sensor was in situ heated at different temperatures to obtain porous ZnO, and their humidity-sensing properties were investigated ranging from 25 to 80% RH.

We undertake a theoretical analysis and a simulated calculation to study the device characteristics and obtain the specific parameters of ellipticity and long axis of the elliptic microfiber for the group birefringence turning point. In the experiment, we obtain a positive sensitivity of 0.

In this paper, a chloride ion sensor based on a microfiber coupler with a Sagnac loop is proposed. The microfiber coupler, which acts as the sensing unit and has a diameter of 10 μm and a length of 1 mm, is fabricated using the flame-brushing technique, and the two ends are connected to form a Sagnac loop, which acts as a reflector to enhance the reflection in the structure.
