Gypsum karst lakes are unique water ecosystems characterized by specific habitat conditions for living organisms, including phytoplankton species, as primary producers and mediating biogeochemical cycles in the water bodies. Studies of diversity and structure of phytoplankton communities can be used to identify the specific and typical lake features and plan basin-wide monitoring. The aim of this research was to analyze the structural variables of algocenoses in the small gypsum karstic Lake Klyuchik (Middle Volga basin), atypical for the subzone of mixed coniferous and deciduous forest zone high values of water mineralization (brackish water) and low temperatures. The lake has two water areas, connected by a shallow strait (ecotone zone) and differing from each other in the chemical compositions and physical properties of the water. A total of 133 species of phytoplankton with prevalence percentages of Bacillariophyta (46%), Chlorophyta (24%), and Ochrophyta (11%) were found; α-diversity varied from 4 to 30 specific and intraspecific taxa per sample. According to Spearman's correlation coefficients, the diversity indices (Shannon, Pielou, Simpson) were mainly determined by the number of dominant species. The uniquely high (up to 130 g/m) biomass of phytoplankton was noted in the ecotone, on the border between the water column and the bottom. The formation of mono- and oligo-dominant nannoplankton diatom communities with a predominance of the rare species Hustedt was demonstrated there. The roles of flagellate algae and cyanobacteria were found to be less significant.

Colitis is a complex multifactorial disease with an unknown aetiology that mainly manifests as chronic refractory colon transmission disorders. Smooth muscle, the main source of colon transmission power, consists of not only smooth muscle cells (SMCs) but also PDGFRα+ cells that mediate smooth muscle relaxation and ICCs that mediate contraction. PDGFRα+ cells and their unique small conductance Ca2+-activated K (SK3) channels are crucial in regulating colonic transit by exerting inhibitory effects.

Objective: To investigate the mechanism and effect of Renshen () polysaccharide on the migration of intestinal epithelial cell line 6 (IEC-6), as well as the repair mechanism of Renshen () polysaccharide on colonic injury induced by dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) in mice.

Methods: Mice were fed 3% (w/v) DSS for 6 d to create colonic lesions. A cell-migration model was created using cell scratching.

Residue of energetic formulations, which is deposited on military training grounds following incomplete detonation, poses biotic hazards. This residue can be transported off-site, adsorb to soil clays and organic matter, transform or degrade, or taken up by plants and animals. Its harmful effects can be mitigated by localizing the energetics at the site of initial deposition using soil amendments and allowing them to bio- and photodegrade in situ.

The fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP) bar is a promising solution to problems caused by steel rebar corrosion in concrete. To assess the service life of the FRP bar based on accelerated test results, it is crucial to have a reliable model. Here, a modified exponential (MEP) model is proposed based on the Avrami equation.
