Measures of purity for 3D partially polarized fields, and in particular, the separation into circularly and linearly polarized contributions, are reexamined, and a new degree of total linear polarization introduced. Explicit expressions for the characteristic decomposition in terms of coherency matrix elements are presented, including the special case of an intrinsic coherency matrix. Parameterization of the coherency matrix in terms of ellipticity, and the directions of the ellipse normal and major axis are investigated. Phase consistency is discussed. A comprehensive collection of results regarding intrinsic polarization properties is presented.

In this study, we aim to validate the analytical Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) equation for determining attenuation coefficients using a 1310 nm Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) system. Our experimental results successfully confirm the validity of the equation, achieving unprecedented precision with a standard deviation below 0.01 mm for intralipid samples.

Lung nodule appearance may provide prognostic information, as the presence of spiculation increases the suspicion of a nodule being cancerous. Spiculations can be quantified using morphological radiomics features extracted from CT images. Radiomics features can be affected by the acquisition parameters and scanner technologies; thus, it is essential to identify imaging conditions that provide reliable measurements, particularly for emerging technologies like photon-counting CT.

Modeling Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) images is crucial for numerous image processing applications and aids ophthalmologists in the early detection of macular abnormalities. Sparse representation-based models, particularly dictionary learning (DL), play a pivotal role in image modeling. Traditional DL methods often transform higher-order tensors into vectors and then aggregate them into a matrix, which overlooks the inherent multi-dimensional structure of the data.

Light, strong, and radiation-tolerant materials are essential for advanced nuclear systems and aerospace applications. However, the comprehensive properties of current radiation-tolerant materials are far from being satisfactory in harsh operating environments. In this study, a high-throughput-designed NbVTaSi refractory eutectic medium entropy alloy realizes the controllable formation of the β-NbSi phase with a high content and has outstanding comprehensive properties, i.

We outline two general theoretical techniques to simulate polariton quantum dynamics and optical spectra under the collective coupling regimes described by a Holstein-Tavis-Cummings (HTC) model Hamiltonian. The first one takes advantage of sparsity of the HTC Hamiltonian, which allows one to reduce the cost of acting polariton Hamiltonian onto a state vector to the linear order of the number of states, instead of the quadratic order. The second one is applying the well-known Chebyshev series expansion approach for quantum dynamics propagation and to simulate the polariton dynamics in the HTC system; this approach allows us to use a much larger time step for propagation and only requires a few recursive operations of the polariton Hamiltonian acting on state vectors.
