Herpes zoster is an infection caused by reactivation of varicella-zoster virus presenting as multiple grouped vesicular eruptions in a dermatomal pattern with associated pain. Recurrent herpes zoster is an uncommon event in an immunocompetent host. Here, we report a case of a young male presenting with herpes zoster over the T9 and T10 dermatome with the previous scarring of herpes zoster over the T6 dermatome over the right upper trunk. The patient improved on treatment with oral acyclovir and analgesics. In any patient with recurrenrt hepes zoster, work-up should be done to rule out immunosuppresion.

We report a case of a 65-year-old female with postherpetic itch (PHI) over the left chest, who experienced significant relief after pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) therapy. While her initial pain and rash had improved with nerve blocks and medications, she had developed severe itching. PRF therapy significantly reduced the itching, which nearly disappeared.

Previous case reports hint ultraviolet A1 (UVA1) phototherapy as a novel adjunct treatment for acute cutaneous inflammations and neuralgia of herpes zoster, but its clinical effectiveness and safety in this condition are not yet proven by clinical trials. To determine the efficacy and safety of UVA1 phototherapy as an adjunct treatment for acute inflammation and neuralgia in herpes zoster. A total of 60 patients with moderate-to-severe acute herpes zoster were randomly divided into two parallel groups.

Introduction: Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is a common complication of herpes zoster (HZ). This study aimed to use a large real-world electronic medical records database to determine the optimal machine learning model for predicting the progression to severe PHN and to identify the associated risk factors.

Methods: We analyzed the electronic medical records of 23,326 patients diagnosed with HZ from January 2010 to June 2020.

Introduction: Reactivation of herpes simplex virus (HSV) and varicella zoster virus (VZV) is a potential complication following allogeneic stem cell transplantation (alloSCT). Since different doses and durations of acyclovir prophylaxis may be utilized across transplant centers, this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a lower dose of acyclovir in preventing HSV and VZV reactivation in alloSCT recipients within our institution.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted for patients who underwent alloSCT between April 2016 and May 2023.

Purpose: Varicella zoster virus-related encephalitis (VZV-RE) is a rare and often misdiagnosed condition caused by an infection with the VZV. It leads to meningitis or encephalitis, with patients frequently experiencing poor prognosis. In this study, we used metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) to rapidly and accurately detect and identify the VZV pathogen directly from cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples, aiming to achieve a definitive diagnosis for encephalitis patients.
