Hypothermic Myocardial Preservation: The Freezing Debate.

Transplant Proc

March 2025

Division of Cardiology, Department of Internal Medicine, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia.

Background: Storage of hearts in ice for transportation is thought to cause post-transplantation graft dysfunction secondary to freeze injury. We studied the myocardial damage and resulting function in hearts stored at 0 °C, 4 °C and 8 °C for 4 hours.

Methods: Rat hearts were procured under general anesthesia and immediately stored in University of Wisconsin solution at 0 °C, 4 °C and 8 °C for 4 hours (n = 6-8/group).

Background: Self-care is essential for patient with chronic conditions such as heart failure. Self-care facilitates adaptation in patients with a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD), improving their outcomes and preventing complications. Currently, no studies provide an overview of self-care in people with LVADs.

Common neural correlates of chronic pain - A systematic review and meta-analysis of resting-state fMRI studies.

Prog Neuropsychopharmacol Biol Psychiatry

March 2025

Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS), School of Medicine, University of Minho, Campus Gualtar, 4710-057 Braga, Portugal; ICVS/3B's - PT Government Associate Laboratory, Braga/Guimarães, Portugal; Clinical Academic Center, Braga, Portugal. Electronic address:

Maladaptive brain plasticity has been reported in chronic pain (CP) conditions, though it remains unclear if there are common alterations across pathologies. Therefore, we systematically synthesized literature comparing resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) in CP patients and healthy controls (HC), and meta-analyzed data whenever applicable. Separate meta-analyses were performed for each method - (fractional) amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (fALFF, ALFF), regional homogeneity (ReHo), seed-based connectivity (according to the seed) and independent component analysis (according to the network).

Background: Very-high-power short-duration (vHPSD) radiofrequency (RF) ablation is expected to make shallow lesions and reduce collateral damage. This study investigated the power setting and quality of acute lesions performed by a modified vHPSD RF ablation guided by left atrial (LA) voltage around the esophagus.

Methods: A voltage map was obtained by an OCTARAY catheter (3-mm spacing) during pacing from the high right atrium.

Deep learning-based automated segmentation of cardiac real-time MRI in non-human primates.

Comput Biol Med

March 2025

Functional Imaging Laboratory, German Primate Center, Leibniz Institute for Primate Research, Goettingen, Germany; Georg-August University of Goettingen, Goettingen, Germany; DZHK (German Centre for Cardiovascular Research), Partner Site Lower Saxony, Goettingen, Germany. Electronic address:

Advanced imaging techniques, like magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), have revolutionised cardiovascular disease diagnosis and monitoring in humans and animal models. Real-time (RT) MRI, which can capture a single slice during each consecutive heartbeat while the animal or patient breathes continuously, generates large data sets that necessitate automatic myocardium segmentation to fully exploit these technological advancements. While automatic segmentation is common in human adults, it remains underdeveloped in preclinical animal models.
