Rainfall fluctuation makes precipitation and flood prediction difficult. The coefficient of variation can be used to measure rainfall dispersion to produce information for predicting future rainfall, thereby mitigating future disasters. Rainfall data usually consist of positive and true zero values that correspond to a delta-lognormal distribution. Therefore, the coefficient of variation of delta-lognormal distribution is appropriate to measure the rainfall dispersion more than lognormal distribution. In particular, the measurement of the dispersion of precipitation from several areas can be determined by measuring the common coefficient of variation in the rainfall from those areas together. Herein, we compose confidence intervals for the common coefficient of variation of delta-lognormal distributions by employing the fiducial generalized confidence interval, equal-tailed Bayesian credible intervals incorporating the independent Jeffreys or uniform priors, and the method of variance estimates recovery. A combination of the coverage probabilities and expected lengths of the proposed methods obtained a Monte Carlo simulation study were used to compare their performances. The results show that the equal-tailed Bayesian based on the independent Jeffreys prior was suitable. In addition, it can be used the equal-tailed Bayesian based on the uniform prior as an alternative. The efficacies of the proposed confidence intervals are demonstrated applying them to analyze daily rainfall datasets from Nan, Thailand.

The spectral reflectance provides valuable information regarding vegetation growth and plays an important role in agriculture, forestry, and grassland management. In this study, a small, portable vegetation canopy reflectance (VCR) sensor that can operate throughout the day was developed. The sensor includes two optical bands at 710 nm and 870 nm, with the light separated by filters, and has a field of view of 28°.

Free fatty acids (FFAs) are important energy sources and significant for energy transport in the body. They also play a crucial role in cellular oxidative stress responses, following cell membrane depolarization, making accurate quantification of FFAs essential. This study presents a novel supercritical fluid chromatography-mass spectrometry (SFC-MS) method using selected ion recording in negative electrospray ionization mode, enabling rapid quantification of 31 FFAs within 6 min without derivatization.

Dark photons, as a minimal extension of the Standard Model through an additional Abelian gauge group, may propagate relativistically across the galaxy, originating from dark matter decay or annihilation, thereby contributing to a galactic dark photon background. The generation of dark photons typically favors certain polarization modes, which are dependent on the interactions between dark matter and dark photons. We introduce a framework in which a resonant cavity is utilized to detect and differentiate these polarizations, leveraging the daily variation in expected signals due to the anisotropic distribution of dark photons and the rotation of the Earth.

Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) is present in a healthy brain at low densities but can be markedly upregulated by excitatory input and by inflammogens. This study evaluated the sensitivity of the PET radioligand [C]-6-methoxy-2-(4-(methylsulfonyl)phenyl)--(thiophen-2-ylmethyl)pyrimidin-4-amine ([C]MC1) to detect COX-2 density in a healthy human brain. The specificity of [C]MC1 was confirmed using lipopolysaccharide-injected rats and transgenic mice expressing the human gene, with 120-min baseline and blocked scans using COX-1 and COX-2 selective agents.

Estuarine ecosystems have been threatened by increasing anthropogenic and natural pressures, yet the integral understanding of their stability characteristics of microbial communities at taxonomic, habitat, and spatial scales remains limited. In this study, the Mulan River estuary in southeastern China was selected to compare the stability characteristics of bacterial and protistan communities in water and sediments over three hydrological periods, and to explore their spatial variations along the estuarine continuum from river to ocean. The potential driving mechanisms of stability characteristics were also explored.
