Objectives: Internal fixation with multiple cannulated compression screws is an optional treatment for femoral neck fracture. Recently, fully threaded cannulated compression screws (FTCCS) have been introduced to fix fresh femoral neck fractures (FNF). The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of FTCCS.
Patients And Methods: Patients with FNF fixed by multiple FTCCS from February 1st, 2014 to August 31st, 2017 were included in this study. They were followed for at least 12 months postoperatively. Nonunion, osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH), fixation failure, reoperation, and femoral neck shortening (FNS) were used to evaluate the outcomes. Risk factors including age, sex, fracture side, fracture displacement, fracture stability, fixation configuration, and screw numbers were analyzed.
Results: A total of 113 patients including 67 males and 46 females with an average age of 48.4 ± 13.4 years were included. The mean duration of follow-up was 27.1 months (range: 12-51 months). The incidence of nonunion, ONFH, fixation failure, and reoperation was 15.9%, 22.1%, 8.8%, and 24.8%, respectively. The rates of nonunion and reoperation were significantly higher in displaced fractures and unstable fractures. And patients with an unstable fracture had a higher risk of internal fixation failure. The median length of FNS was 2.9 mm (interquartile range: 0.9-6.5 mm, range: 0-17.5 mm). Age was a significant risk factor for FNS.
Conclusions: The screw fixation method with FTCCS provided encouraging clinical results which may be a rational choice for the treatment of fresh FNF. Displaced fractures and unstable fractures were attributed to the higher incidence of complications.

The essence of menopause is ovarian failure, decreased estrogen volatility, and deficiency leading to multiple related symptoms and an increased risk of metabolic disease in women, such as cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis. This study screened 773 eligible postmenopausal and perimenopausal women from an initial pool of 1187 participants, and various physiological and biochemical indices were measured and analyzed to assess differences across three age groups (40-44 years, 45-49 years, 50-54). We found no significant difference in the rate of cardiovascular disease between postmenopausal and perimenopausal women, while the rate of osteoporosis was higher in postmenopausal women compared to perimenopausal women.

Background: High-dose testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), paired with finasteride (type II 5α-reductase inhibitor), improves body composition, muscle strength, and bone mineral density (BMD) in older men, without inducing prostate enlargement-a side effect associated with TRT. Men with spinal cord injury (SCI) exhibit neuromuscular impairment, muscle atrophy, bone loss, and increased central adiposity, along with low testosterone. However, sparse evidence supports TRT efficacy after SCI.

We describe a woman with stiff-person syndrome (SPS), whose muscle spasms resulted in sequential bilateral femoral neck fractures. Orthopaedic fixation of the first fracture was complicated by increased muscle spasm, fracture nonunion and ultimately metalwork fracture. SPS was diagnosed following the fracture of the contralateral femoral neck, neurology assessment and detection of high-titre antibodies to glutamic acid decarboxylase.

Background: For complete disruption of the posterolateral corner (PLC) structures, operative treatment is most commonly advocated, as nonoperative treatment has higher rates of persistent lateral laxity and posttraumatic arthritis. Some studies have shown that acute direct repair results in revision rates upwards of 37% to 40% compared with 6% to 9% for initial reconstruction. In a recent study assessing the outcomes of acute repair of PLC avulsion injuries with 2 to 7 years of follow-up, patients with adequate tissue were shown to have a much lower failure rate than previously documented.

Atraumatic bilateral femoral neck fractures are rare, especially in younger patients and those without significant comorbidities. However, pregnant individuals appear to be at increased risk due to normal physiological changes in calcium balance, leading to transient osteoporosis of the hip. In these individuals, calcium and bone mineral density are generally decreased, reflecting the calcium demands of the developing fetus.
