Because of the abundance and cost effectiveness of sodium, rechargeable sodium metal batteries have been widely studied to replace current lithium-ion batteries. However, there are some critical unresolved issues including the high reactivity of sodium, an unstable solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI), and sodium dendrite formation. While several studies have been conducted to understand sodium plating/stripping processes, only a very limited number of studies have been carried out under conditions. We have employed X-ray and optical imaging techniques to understand the mechanistic behavior of Na metal plating. The morphology of sodium metal plated on a copper electrode depends strongly on the salts and solvents used in the electrolyte. The addition of a fluorine-containing additive to a carbonate-based electrolyte, NaClO in propylene carbonate (PC):fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC), results in uniform sodium plating processes and much more stable cycling performance, compared to NaClO in PC, because of the formation of a stable SEI containing NaF. A NaF layer, on top of the sodium metal, leads to a much more uniform deposition of sodium and greatly enhanced cyclability.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), a malignancy highly prevalent in East and Southeast Asia, is primarily treated with radiotherapy (RT). However, hypoxia-induced radioresistance presents a significant challenge. Nanozymes, nanomaterials with catalase-like activity, have emerged as a promising strategy for radiosensitization by converting elevated hydrogen peroxide in the tumor microenvironment into oxygen.

The coexistence and interaction of free metal cations in the environment can significantly affect the migration of organic pollutants, leading to varied effects depending on environmental conditions. However, the mechanisms affecting the adsorption of organic pollutants in the presence of metal ions remain poorly understood due to limited molecular-level studies. This study investigated the adsorption behavior of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) on montmorillonite (MT) at different pH values (1.

Reactive oxygen species with evoked immunotherapy holds tremendous promise for cancer treatment but has limitations due to its dependence on exogenous excitation and/or endogenous HO and O. Here we report a versatile oxidizing pentavalent bismuth(V) nanoplatform (NaBiO-PEG) can generate reactive oxygen species in an excitation-free and HO- and O-independent manner. Upon exposure to the tumor microenvironment, NaBiO-PEG undergoes continuous H-accelerated hydrolysis with •OH and O generation through electron transfer-mediated Bi-to-Bi conversion and lattice oxygen transformation.

Fe/Mn-based metal oxides have attracted considerable attention as cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries owing to their low cost and high specific capacity. However, the relatively large ionic radius of the sodium ion (1.02 Å) results in inefficient diffusion kinetics, resulting in reduced battery performance.
