The electronic structure and circular dichroism spectra of the ytterbium(III) complex [Yb(DOTMA)] are calculated using complete and restricted active space self-consistent field wavefunction methods with the spin-orbit coupling treated by the state interaction approach. The influence of the dynamical correlation effect is then included the 2nd order perturbation method. The experimental circular dichroism spectrum is well reproduced by calculations, both in terms of relative energy excitations and in terms of rotatory strength intensities. The results allow highlighting the mechanism that drives the chiroptical properties in Yb(III) complexes and reveal the importance of taking into account the 4f5d electronic configurations in the calculated wavefunctions to properly describe the chiroptical properties of the 4f-4f transitions.

Chiral organic-inorganic metal halide (OIMH) materials are gaining increasing attention as candidates for asymmetric materials due to their unique photoelectric, chiral optic, and spintronic properties. The introduction of chirality into OIMHs is usually achieved by the use of chiral organic cations, while previous studies often focus on primary ammonium cations derived from commercially available chiral amines, limiting the tunability of the OIMH materials. Herein, we report the use of Zincke reactions to synthesize chiral N-substituted pyridinium salts, namely, (R)/(S)-methylbenzylpyridinium (/-MBnP) chloride and the corresponding 1D chiral OIMHs, (/-MBnP)PbX3 (X = Cl, Br, and I).

Chiral polar crystals composed of one-dimensional (1D) conducting materials exhibit unique physical phenomena. The present study focused on helical 1D-structured lead halide perovskite derivatives with chiral naphthylethylamine as organic cations, (R or S-NEA)[PbI3](R-NEA = R-(+)-1-(1-naphthyl)ethylamine, S-NEA = S-(-)-1-(1-naphthyl)ethylamine). A thermally controlled crystallization method has successfully yielded crystals with a polar chiral space group of C2.

Chiroptical resonances with high quality factors (Q factors) have recently garnered extensive attention due to their broad applications in lasing and optical sensing. However, the independent manipulation of the Q factor and circular dichroism (CD) of chiroptical resonances has rarely been proposed. Here, we demonstrate that the Q factor and CD of guided mode resonance (GMR) can be independently manipulated by simply varying two structural parameters in a diatomic dielectric metasurface grating, offering a new paradigm for chiroptical resonance manipulation.

Colloidal chemistry provides an assortment of synthetic tools for tuning the shape of semiconductor nanocrystals. To fully exploit the shape- and structure-dependent properties of semiconductor nanorods, high-precision control on growth and design is essential. However, achieving this precision is highly challenging due to the high temperatures (>350 °C) and short reaction times (<8 minutes) often required for these reactions.
