Background: The 3M™ Molecular Detection Assay 2 - STEC Gene Screen (stx) method is based on gene amplification by the use of real-time loop-mediated isothermal amplification when used with the 3M Molecular Detection System for the rapid and specific detection of Shiga toxin gene (stx1 and/or stx2) from Shiga toxin-producing enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (STEC) in enriched foods.

Objective: The 3M Molecular Detection Assay 2 - STEC Gene Screen (stx) method was evaluated as a Level 2 method modification to add new matrixes to the certified claim: 25 g fresh raw ground beef (approximately 75% lean), 375 g raw beef trim (approximately 75% lean), 375 g fresh raw ground pork (approximately 70% lean), 375 g fresh raw poultry parts, and 25 g sprouts.

Methods: Matrix studies were conducted to assess the method's performance compared to the US Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service Microbiology Laboratory Guidebook, 5C.00 for meat and poultry, and to the US Food and Drug Administration Bacteriological Analytical Manual, Ch. 4A for sprouts, using an unpaired study design.

Results: The 3M Molecular Detection Assay 2 - STEC Gene Screen (stx) method demonstrated no significant differences between presumptive and confirmed results or between candidate and reference method results for any of the matrices tested.

Conclusion And Highlights: The data collected in these studies demonstrate that the 3M Molecular Detection Assay 2 - STEC Gene Screen (stx) is a reliable method for the rapid and specific detection of STEC in fresh raw ground beef (approximately 75% lean), fresh raw beef trim (approximately 75% lean), fresh raw ground pork (approximately 70% lean), fresh raw poultry parts, and sprouts.

The glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) materials of wind turbine blades can be recovered and recycled by crushing, thereby solving one of the most perplexing problems facing the wind energy sector. This process yields selectively crushed wind turbine blade (SCWTB), a novel waste that is almost exclusively composed of GFRP composite fibers that can be revalued in terms of their use as a raw material in concrete production. In this research, the fresh and mechanical performance of concrete made with 1.

December 2024

Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education & Communication, University of Georgia, Athens, GA 30606, USA.

As the foundation of human health, the food system is arguably a cornerstone of society. However, despite the criticality of a safe and productive food value chain there are numerous critical issues faced by industries associated with food science and technology. Using a three round Delphi process, this study identified the most critical issues faced by these industries.

University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Parasitology and Invasive Diseases, Oczapowskiego 13, 10-718 Olsztyn, Poland.

Birds of prey raised in captivity have direct contact with the environment and are fed raw meat various animals, which increases the risk of infections caused by parasites, including endoparasites. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of endoparasites in predatory birds of the orders Accipitriformes and Falconiformes that are used in falconry in Poland. Fresh feces were sampled from 52 birds, including 16 saker falcons (Falco cherrug), 8 lanner falcons (Falco biarmicus), 7 peregrine falcons (Falco peregrinus), 8 Harris's hawks (Parabuteo unicinctus), 7 Eurasian goshawks (Accipiter gentilis), 3 common kestrels (Falco tinnunculus), 1 Eurasian sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus), 1 red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis), and 1 common buzzard (Buteo buteo).

The use of alternative ingredients as supplements to or blends with kombucha tea to improve organoleptic properties and health effects has recently increased. Indian gooseberry fruit is among the most promising alternative raw materials for producing functional kombucha since the berries contain several beneficial substances. In this study, the production of functional kombucha beverages from fusions of black tea and Indian gooseberry fruit homogenate (IGH) was investigated, and the chemical and biological properties of kombucha products were evaluated and compared with those of traditional black tea kombucha products.
