NICU discharge preparation and transition planning: foreword.

Parents whose babies are admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) need support. Whether their baby's stay is brief or long, uncomplicated or complex, a NICU stay changes how they care for their infant and how they will parent once they are discharged. While we know a NICU stay is traumatic for most parents, the consequences of a family's time spent in the NICU do not need to be negative ones. Supportive NICU teams can use the time a family is in the NICU to engage in a well-designed discharge preparation and transition planning program. These programs can have a lasting positive impact on both the infant's health and the family's wellbeing.

Aim: An end colostomy is a potentially life-saving surgical intervention, but postoperative ostomy management is challenging in resource-limited settings. Socioeconomic, health system, and surgical capacity barriers may delay colostomy reversal. A surgery camp model for addressing the burden of unreversed colostomies has not previously been undertaken in Malawi.

Electrocatalytic materials with dual functions of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) have received increasing attention in the field of zinc-air batteries (ZABs) research. In this study, bifunctional CoNC@NCXS catalysts were prepared by anchoring Co and N co-doped CoNC on N-doped carbon xerogel sphere (NCXS) based on the spatially confined domain effect and in-situ doping technique. CoNC@NCXS exhibited excellent ORR/OER activity in alkaline electrolytes with the ORR onset potential of 0.

Background/purpose: Osseointegration potential is greatly depended on the interaction between bone cells and dental implant surface. Since zirconia ceramic has a bioinert surface, functionalization of the surface with an organic compound allylamine was conducted to overcome its drawback of minimal interaction with the surrounding bone.

Materials And Methods: The zirconia surface was initially treated with argon glow discharge plasma (GDP), then combined with amine plasma at three different conditions of 50-W, 75-W and 85-W, to prepare the final samples.

LiFeMnPO (0 < < 1) has a high operating voltage range and theoretical energy density, but its actual capacity decreased due to its low electronic conductivity. To overcome this problem, we successfully prepared LiFeMnPO/C (LFMP/C) with a uniform carbon coating by a one-step solvothermal method using bamboo shavings as the carbon source. The results showed that heating at a reaction temperature of 180 °C for 18 h was the optimal synthesis condition to obtain LFMP/C.

Background: A significant number of patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) on direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) receives off-label or inappropriate doses. This study examines the prevalence, dosages, and clinical outcomes in AF-patients on DOAC therapy admitted to an emergency department (ED).

Methods: This retrospective single-center observational study utilized data from the Heidelberg Registry of Atrial Fibrillation (HERA-FIB), consecutively including patients with AF presenting to the ED of the University Hospital of Heidelberg from June 2009 to March 2020.
