Phosphorus, a crucial component of life, may cause eutrophication if it is discharged untreated into the aquatic ecosystem. Phosphate (PO) may exist at an elevated level in anaerobic digestion (AD) effluents and can lead to the clogging of pipes by forming struvite crystals. This study was conducted to assess the responses of coagulant type, dosage and process conditions to phosphate removal efficiency from anaerobic sludge. The experiments were performed in two steps. First, a sensitivity test was conducted to compare five coagulant types (alum, poly-aluminum chloride (PAC), FeCl, FeCl and PAC + FeCl) at standard coagulation conditions. The results showed that PAC would be the best coagulant among the tested, while a combination of PAC and FeCl may be beneficial under circumstances. Second, an optimization study was performed for PAC using response surface methodology employing central composite design. Among the three independent variables (coagulant dosage, slow mixing duration and agitation speed), the dosage was the sole significant variable for phosphate removal efficiency, while the other two had limited effects. A future study to optimize the rapid mixing conditions would give additional insights into the process. The results of this study may be useful to design a process to counteract phosphate discharges from AD plants, as well as to reduce the risks of pipe clogging and maintenance problems due to crystalline struvite formation in the later stage of AD.

A downstream process for the recovery and purification of acetic acid (AA) from an extremely diluted solution (100 mg L) also containing a mixture of contaminating inorganic salts in the form of bicarbonates, phosphates, sulfates and chlorides (DPM medium) has been developed, showing its technical feasibility. The process involves two successive steps based on the use of a mixed bed ion exchange (IEX) resin. The first step, a demineralization treatment to remove the inorganic anions that could potentially interfere with the recovery and purification of AA, involves a combined treatment of calcium precipitation, acidification with the Amberlite IR-120 resin and treatment with the Amberlite MB20 mixed bed resin.

A self-driven electrochemical system (SDES) was utilized to treat anaerobic digestate wastewater, aiming to achieve wastewater resource utilization and energy generation. The efficiencies of pollutant removal, resource recovery, and energy production were enhanced by adjusting device parameters (anode area, external resistance, and electrode spacing). The high pollutant removal rates and struvite purity were achieved with the magnesium anode area of 15 cm, external resistance of 10 Ω, and electrode spacing of 10 cm.

Dentin hypersensitivity (DH), marked by exposed dentinal tubules, presents as a sharp toothache triggered by stimuli and subsides when the stimuli are removed. To address the limitations of current commercial desensitizers in terms of acid resistance, friction resistance, and stability, a black phosphorus nanosheet-composited methacrylate gelatin hydrogel (GelMA/BP) is developed for DH treatment, leveraging the synergistic effects of photothermal therapy and biomineralization. Incorporating the BP nanosheet provided GelMA/BP with a stable photothermal response and the continuous release of phosphate anions, which blocked dentinal tubules by converting light energy into heat and initiating biomineralization.

Introduction: To address the scarcity of agricultural phosphorus (P) fertilizers and reduce phosphorus accumulation in wastewater, this study employed iron-modified biochar (Fe-B) to adsorb phosphorus from water. The phosphorus-loaded iron-modified biochar (Fe-BP) was subsequently applied to peanut fields. Batch experiments were conducted to determine the optimal adsorption parameters and mechanism of Fe-B for phosphate ions (PO ).
