AI Article Synopsis

  • A numerical algorithm for analyzing electromagnetic scattering from singly curved dielectric structures, like fighter aircraft canopies, is introduced and experimentally verified.
  • The PMCHWT method serves as a MoM-based solution for this analysis, formulated in a multi-region context using EFIE.
  • The accuracy of the algorithm, implemented in C++, is confirmed through comparison of bistatic radar cross-section (RCS) measurements from canonical structures, showing strong agreement with results from specially modeled curved dielectric structures.

Article Abstract

In this paper, a numerical algorithm for the electromagnetic scattering analysis of singly curved dielectric structures, which can be applied to a canopy of fighter aircraft, is presented with experimental verification. At first, the Poggio-Miller-Chang-Harrington-Wu-Tsai (PMCHWT) method is used as a MoM-based solution for the electromagnetic scattering of a dielectric material. Its formulation was generated with the EFIE formulation in a multi-region condition. The PMCHWT algorithm is implemented with C++ code, and the accuracy is verified by calculating the bistatic RCS of some canonical structures with conductive or dielectric materials. RCS measurement under quasi-anechoic condition is presented with its procedure and calibration method. The monostatic RCS results of a specially modeled singly curved dielectric structures are obtained analytically with the PMCHWT, as well as experimentally, revealing excellent agreement.

Stable π Radical BDPA: Adsorption on Cu(100) and Survival of Spin.

Institute of Semiconductor and Solid State Physics, Johannes Kepler Universität Linz, Altenbergerstraße 69, 4040, Linz, Austria.

The adsorption of the radical α,ɣ-bisdiphenylene-β-phenylallyl (BDPA) molecule to the Cu(100) surface was studied using scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM), scanning tunnelling spectroscopy (STS), and density functional theory (DFT) calculations accounting for dispersion forces. BDPA on Cu(100) was observed to align preferentially along directions due to weak Cu-C chemisorption between fluorenyl carbons with the underlying copper atoms. The curved shape of the BDPA molecule on Cu(100) can be ascribed to the lack of molecular orbital character on the phenyl substituent.

β-to-β Singly Linked Subphthalocyanine Dimers with Effective π-Conjugation.

Org Lett

November 2024

Department of Organic Chemistry, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Campus de Cantoblanco, 28049 Madrid, Spain.

In this work, a series of π-conjugated Subphthalocyanine dimers assembled by simple π-bridges were efficiently synthesized through metal-catalyzed reactions. Despite being singly linked, these readily accessible arrays exhibit excellent π-electron communication, significantly perturbing the orbital distribution of conventional SubPcs and inducing notable alterations in their optical properties. The findings presented here demonstrate the potential of SubPcs for constructing curved porphyrin arrays with well-conjugated skeletons and intriguing functionalities.
