(1) Background: Female sex is considered a risk factor for Intensive Care Unit-Acquired Weakness (ICUAW). The aim is to investigate sex-specific aspects of skeletal muscle metabolism in the context of ICUAW. (2) Methods: This is a sex-specific sub-analysis from two prospectively conducted trials examining skeletal muscle metabolism and advanced muscle activating measures in critical illness. Muscle strength was assessed by Medical Research Council Score. The insulin sensitivity index was analyzed by hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic (HE) clamp. Muscular metabolites were studied by microdialysis. biopsies were taken. The molecular analysis included protein degradation pathways. Morphology was assessed by myocyte cross-sectional area (MCSA). Multivariable linear regression models for the effect of sex on outcome parameters were performed. (3) Results: = 83 (♂ = 57, 68.7%; ♀ = 26, 31.3%) ICU patients were included. ICUAW was present in 81.1%♂ and in 82.4%♀ at first awakening ( = 0.911) and in 59.5%♂ and in 70.6%♀ at ICU discharge ( = 0.432). Insulin sensitivity index was reduced more in women than in men ( = 0.026). Sex was significantly associated with insulin sensitivity index and MCSA of Type IIa fibers in the adjusted regression models. (4) Conclusion: This hypothesis-generating analysis suggests that more pronounced impairments in insulin sensitivity and lower MCSA of Type IIa fibers in critically ill women may be relevant for sex differences in ICUAW.

Context: Physical activity, exercise, or both are a staple of lifestyle management approaches both for type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and type 2 diabetes (T2DM). While the current literature supports both physical activity and exercise for improving glycemic control, reducing cardiovascular risk, maintaining proper weight, and enhancing overall well-being, the optimal prescription regimen remains debated.
Evidence Acquisition: We searched PubMed and Google Scholar databases for relevant studies on exercise, insulin sensitivity, and glycemic control in people with T1DM and T2DM.

The effects of wheat and oat dietary fiber (DF) alone or combined on T2DM remain unclear. In this research, / diabetic mice were fed with diets containing 10% insoluble wheat dietary fiber (WDF), 10% insoluble oat dietary fiber (ODF), and 10% WODF (mixture of WDF and ODF, WDF : ODF = 1 : 1) for 8 weeks. The results showed that WDF, ODF, and WODF all reduced the body weight and fasting blood glucose (FBG) and improved oral glucose tolerance in / mice.

encodes three regulatory subunits of class IA phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K), each associating with any of three catalytic subunits, namely p110α, p110β, or p110δ. Constitutional mutations cause diseases with a genotype-phenotype relationship not yet fully explained: heterozygous loss-of-function mutations cause SHORT syndrome, featuring insulin resistance and short stature attributed to reduced p110α function, while heterozygous activating mutations cause immunodeficiency, attributed to p110δ activation and known as APDS2. Surprisingly, APDS2 patients do not show features of p110α hyperactivation, but do commonly have SHORT syndrome-like features, suggesting p110α hypofunction.

Background: Low adherence to Oral Antidiabetic Drugs (OADs) in adults with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) leads to complications, death, and increased healthcare costs.
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of medication adherence education interventions for the clinical outcomes of adults with T2DM.
Materials And Methods: Seventy adults with T2DM from an outpatient clinic in the City of Ardabil, Iran, participated in this study.

Background: The combination of cardiovascular disease and diabetes is a highly prevalent condition in the United Arab Emirates. Development and dissemination of evidence-based regional recommendations for optimal screening, treatment and referrals of people with diabetes and high cardiovascular risk is an important priority.
Consensus Panel: An expert panel of diabetologists, endocrinologists and cardiologists from the Emirates Cardiac Society and Emirates Diabetes and Endocrine Society as well as different entities in the UAE, discussed and reviewed evidence and also a consensus report from the American Diabetes Association to formulate contextualized recommendations that could be applied for optimal management of cardiovascular risk in people with diabetes in the UAE.
