Background: Application of current retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) screening criteria results in many unnecessary examinations, because only 5%-10% of infants screened require treatment. Application of screening criteria established by the Postnatal Growth and Retinopathy of Prematurity Study could significantly reduce unnecessary examinations without sacrificing sensitivity to detect treatment-requiring ROP. We evaluated the performance of the G-ROP criteria in a population of high-risk, outborn infants.

Methods: The medical records of consecutive infants screened and/or treated for ROP at Children's Health Care of Atlanta Hospitals from May 1, 2013, to September 6, 2019, were reviewed retrospectively. The sensitivity of the G-ROP birthweight and gestational age screening criteria to detect treatment-requiring ROP was calculated.

Results: During the study period, 901 children underwent examinations for ROP; of these, 5 were excluded from the analysis because birth weight (BW) data was lacking. Of the 896 remaining patients, 120 patients were treated for ROP. Application of G-ROP birth weight and gestational age (GA) criteria alone resulted in a sensitivity of 99.2% to detect infants requiring treatment. Application of weight gain criteria was problematic, because many patients were transferred into our institutions after the specified intervals of 10-19, 20-29, and 30-39 days.

Conclusions: G-ROP BW and GA screening criteria were highly sensitive in detecting treatment-requiring ROP. Applying weight gain criteria in referral centers can be problematic. Intake procedures at referral centers should include documentation of weight gain during 10-19, 20-29, and 30-39 days of life.

Objective: The current neurosurgical treatment for intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) of prematurity resulting in posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHH) seeks to reduce intracranial pressure with temporary and then permanent CSF diversion. In contrast, neuroendoscopic lavage (NEL) directly addresses the intraventricular blood that is hypothesized to damage the ependyma and parenchyma, leading to ventricular dilation and hydrocephalus. The authors sought to determine the feasibility of NEL in PHH.

Background: The aim is to develop age-specific anti-Müllerian hormone screening criteria for polycystic ovary syndrome to facilitate the early detection and diagnosis of the condition, and to subsequently evaluate the screening criteria.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on patient data from Hangzhou Women's Hospital between July 2021 and August 2024. The use of restricted cubic spline analysis helped identify age-related inflection points, which were crucial for segmenting the patient population.

Background: Recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have changed the care processes in mental health, particularly in decision-making support for health care professionals and individuals with mental health problems. AI systems provide support in several domains of mental health, including early detection, diagnostics, treatment, and self-care. The use of AI systems in care flows faces several challenges in relation to decision-making support, stemming from technology, end-user, and organizational perspectives with the AI disruption of care processes.

Purpose: Although lung cancer is one of the most common malignancies, the underlying genetics regarding susceptibility remain poorly understood. We characterized the spectrum of pathogenic/likely pathogenic (P/LP) germline variants within DNA damage response (DDR) genes among lung cancer cases and controls in non-Hispanic Whites (NHWs) and African Americans (AAs).

Materials And Methods: Rare, germline variants in 67 DDR genes with evidence of pathogenicity were identified using the ClinVar database.

Purpose: Financial toxicity (FT) has been linked to higher symptom burden and poorer clinical outcomes for patients with cancer. Despite the availability of validated tools to measure FT, a simple screen remains an unmet need. We evaluated item 12 ("My illness has been a financial hardship to my family and me") of the COmprehensive Score for Financial Toxicity (COST) measure as a single-item FT screening measure.
