The development of acid-resistant and efficient corrosion inhibitors is of great significance for metal protection in many industrial processes. In this work, eight cases of sandwich-type polyoxometalate (POM)-based inorganic-organic hybrids, namely, carboxyethyltin and transition metal (TM) cofunctionalized tungstoantimonates and tungstobismuthates, formulated as Na K [(SnR)(TM(HO))(B-β-SbWO)]·HO and Na K [(SnR)(TM(HO))(B-β-BiWO)]·HO (abbreviated as and ; TM = Mn, Co, Ni, and Zn; = 18, 24, 24, and 22; = 30, 25, 20, and 21; SnR = Sn(CHCHCOO)) are first used as green corrosion inhibitors for 20 carbon steel in 0.5-2.0 M HCl solutions. Weight loss and electrochemical experiments prove that the corrosion inhibition efficiency is all above 81% for these POM-based corrosion inhibitors at 150 mg L, and shows the highest efficiency of 96.9% at 150 mg L after immersion in a 0.5 M HCl solution for 10 h. Scanning electron microscopy-energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses show that these POM-based inhibitors form films on the carbon steel and the adsorption mechanism obeys the Langmuir adsorption model. The thermodynamic activation parameters were calculated, proving the occurrence of both chemical and physical adsorptions. The film-forming mechanism was also analyzed. This work provides guidance for synthesizing new lacunary POM-based materials to protect metals from corrosion in HCl pickling.

Five commercially available cut-resistant gloves were sourced from four different worldwide manufacturers which were advertised to contain graphene. A method was developed to assess the fibers composing each glove, including dissolution of the constituent fibers using sulfuric acid or liquid paraffin at elevated temperature, to extract and analyze particle additives. Scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy was applied to fibers and extracted particles for morphological and elemental analysis; Raman spectroscopy was applied to discern the composition of carbonaceous materials for the ultimate purpose of identifying any graphenic additives.

The application of antimicrobial surfaces requires proof of their effectivity by methods in laboratories. One of the most common test methods is ISO 22196:2011, which represents a simple and inexpensive protocol by applying the bacterial suspension with known volume and concentration covered under a polyethylene film on the surfaces. The incubation is then conducted under defined humidity conditions for 24 h.

Seaborn trade has a share of about 80 % in global supply chains and is responsible for approximately 10 % of global carbon emissions. This is why the environmental impact of ships and the shipbuilding process matter. Despite that, this topic is addressed rather sparsely in the present literature body.

Achieving a net-zero emissions economy requires significant decarbonization of the transportation sector, which depends on the development of highly efficient electrocatalysts. Electrolytic water splitting is a promising approach to this end, with Ni-Mo alloys emerging as strong candidates for hydrogen production catalysts. This study investigates the electrodeposition of Ni and Ni-Mo nanostructured alloys with high molybdenum content onto low-carbon steel cathodes using a novel alkaline green lactate bath.

The corrosion rates of carbon steel and galvanized steel according to the ISO 9223 standard, the effect of pollutant contamination and atmospheric aggressiveness under high rainfall conditions in the Chocó department were studied. Carbon and galvanized steel samples, chloride, and sulfur collectors were exposed in three atmospheric stations in three strategic positions covering the Colombian Pacific: Quibdó, Andagoya and Bahía Solano, for different exposure periods (up to 18 months). The structural-micro characterization of corrosion products was evaluated via X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy SEM-EDS.
