Bamboo, being an ornamental plant, has myriad aesthetic and economic significance. Particularly, cv. Viridisulcata contains an internode color phenotype in variation in green and yellow color between the sulcus and culm, respectively. This color variation is unique, but the underlying regulatory mechanism is still unknown. In this study, we used metabolomic and transcriptomic strategies to reveal the underlying mechanism of variation in internode color. A total of 81 metabolites were identified, and among those, prunin as a flavanone and rhoifolin as a flavone were discovered at a high level in the culm. We also found 424 differentially expressed genes and investigated three genes (, , and ) that might be involved in prunin or rhoifolin biosynthesis. Their validation by qRT-PCR confirmed high transcript levels in the culm. The results revealed that , , and might promote the accumulation of prunin and rhoifolin which were responsible for the variation in internode color of . Our study also provides a glimpse into phenotypic coloration and is also a valuable resource for future studies.

Global warming and declining rainfall in recent years have led to increased water and soil salinity in Iran agricultural lands. To address these challenges, greenhouse cultivation, particularly soilless culture, emerges as a critical solution for mitigating the effect of soil salinity and water scarcity on vegetable plant production in Iran. The aim of this experiment was to compare the growth and physiological responses of cucumber plants cultivated in both soil and soilless systems, using three distinct nutrient solutions.

Department of Plant Sciences, College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Bahir Dar University, Bahir Dar, Ethiopia.

Article Synopsis
  • To improve sesame yield, it's crucial to use diverse parents in breeding programs and effective selection methods that consider the relationships between different traits.
  • The experiment found strong positive correlations between seed yield and several traits like plant height and the number of capsules, while a negative correlation was noted with bacterial blight severity.
  • An analysis showed that the number of capsules per plant had the greatest direct effect on yield, and the study also identified significant genetic variability and diversity among sesame traits, with various genotypes grouped into five distinct clusters.

Crape myrtle () is a globally used ornamental woody plant and is the representative species of . However, studies on the evolution and genomic breeding of have been hindered by the lack of a reference genome. Here we assembled the first high-quality genome of using PacBio combined with Hi-C scaffolding to anchor the 329.

A mutation of CsARC6 not only causes white fruit color in cucumber, but also affects plant growth and fruit quality. Fruit color of cucumber is a very important agronomic trait, but most of the genes affecting cucumber white fruit color are still unknow, and no further studies were reported on the effect of cucumber fruit quality caused by white fruit color genes. Here, we obtained a white fruit mutant em41 in cucumber by EMS mutagenesis.
