Epilepsy with auditory features (EAF) is a focal epilepsy belonging to the focal epileptic syndromes with onset at variable age according to the new ILAE Classification. It is characterized by seizures with auditory aura or receptive aphasia suggesting a lateral temporal lobe involvement of the epileptic discharge. Etiological factors underlying EAF are largely unknown. In the familial cases with an autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance several genes have been involved, among which the first discovered, , was thought to be predominant. However, increasing evidence now points to a multifactorial etiology, as familial and sporadic EAF share a virtually identical electro-clinical characterization and only a few have a documented genetic etiology. Patients with EAF usually have an unremarkable neurological examination and a good response to antiseizure medications. However, it must be underscored that total remission might be lower than expected and that treatment withdrawal might lead to relapses. Thus, a proper understanding of this condition is in order for better patient treatment and counseling. Further studies are still required to further characterize the many facets of EAF.

Pathogenic variants are associated with neonatal epilepsies, ranging from self-limited neonatal epilepsy to -developmental and epileptic encephalopathy (DEE). In this study, next-generation sequencing was performed, applying a panel of 142 epilepsy genes on three unrelated individuals and affected family members, showing a wide variability in the epileptic spectrum. The genetic analysis revealed two likely pathogenic missense variants (c.

Background: Paliperidone is a second-generation antipsychotic and the main active metabolite of risperidone, formulated to provide consistent therapeutic effects through an extended-release system, designed to provide consistent therapeutic effects through an extended-release formulation. While commonly used in clinical practice, switching from risperidone to paliperidone, particularly during valproate therapy, can pose challenges due to potential pharmacokinetic interactions that may increase the risk of extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS). Despite clinical observations suggesting these interactions, case reports documenting such adverse effects are scarce.

Unlabelled: Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME) exhibits abnormal functional connectivity of brain networks at multiple frequencies. We used the multilayer network model to address the heterogeneous features at different frequencies and assess the mechanisms of functional integration and segregation of brain networks in JME patients. To address the possibility of false edges or missing edges during network construction, we combined multilayer networks with link prediction techniques.

Systemic Diseases in Patients with Congenital Aniridia: A Report from the Homburg Registry for Congenital Aniridia.

Dr. Rolf M. Schwiete Center for Limbal Stem Cell and Congenital Aniridia Research, Saarland University, Homburg, Saar, Germany.

Introduction: Congenital aniridia is increasingly recognized as part of a complex syndrome with numerous ocular developmental anomalies and non-ocular systemic manifestations. This requires comprehensive care and treatment of affected patients. Our purpose was to analyze systemic diseases in patients with congenital aniridia within the Homburg Aniridia Registry.

Objective: Left hippocampal sclerosis (HS) is associated with verbal-specific memory impairment. This association is well established for word list learning tasks, and there is some evidence that this may also be relevant to verbal paired associates learning (PAL), though the evidence is limited. We aimed to evaluate the utility of verbal PAL as a marker for left HS, compare this with word list learning, and derive cutoff scores to facilitate clinical application.
