Chemical investigation of the fungal endophyte Pseudopestalotiopsis theae isolated from leaves of Caloncoba welwitschii, collected in Cameroon, resulted in two previously undescribed sulfur-containing xanthone derivatives sydoxanthones D and E, in addition to three previously undescribed monomeric diisoprenyl-cyclohexene-type meroterpenoids biscognienynes D-F and five known natural products. The structures of the undescribed compounds were unambiguously identified by their mass spectra and by extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic analysis. Mosher's reaction was performed to determine the absolute configuration of sydoxanthones D and E while TDDFT-ECD calculations were used to assign the configuration of biscognienyne D. Biscognienynes B and D showed significant cytotoxicity against the mouse lymphoma cell line L5178Y with IC values of 7.7 and 6.7 μM and against the human leukemic cell lines HL60, and Hal-01 with IC values ranging from 4.3 to 12.1 μM.

The gray blight incited by Pestalotiopsis and allied genera is a prevalent disease affecting tea cultivation, and managing it with Trichoderma spp. is an alternative to synthetic fungicides. Plants modify their arsenal system against pathogens when they are exposed to Trichoderma spp.

145 fungal isolates were obtained from three sampling sites situated within the Nam River basin, located in the southern region of South Korea. Through ITS sequence analysis, the fungal isolates were identified to comprise 55 species of ascomycetes and 11 species of basidiomycetes. The 55 species of ascomycetes exclusively belong to the phylum Pezizomycotina, comprising 33 species of Dothideomycetes, 6 species of Eurotiomycetes, and 16 species of Sordariomycetes.

Tea grey blight disease is one of the most destructive diseases that infects tea and is caused by the pathogen (Sawada) Steyaert. L-theanine is a unique non-protein amino acid of the tea plant. Different concentrations of L-theanine exhibit significant inhibitory effects on the growth and sporulation ability of the pathogen causing tea grey blight disease.
